I went with my father in law yesterday to an old homestead site where we had hunted before. While on a hill I looked over at an area that looked to have been homesites but due to fires and mud slides it appeared to be just one big slope about two acres in size. We wandered over there and could see signs of old bricks everywhere so we started swinging. Pretty soon we were pulling wheats from the 1910's-1925 and then I hit on 3 old chinese coins and then as I was walking I spied a round black object right on the surface. Picked it up and my heart jumped, a 1928 liberty quarter that was burned black but a little spit brought out the shine! My first silver quarter and I didn't even need my detector to find it! Totals were 6 wheats, 3 old chinese coins and the quarter. I researched the chinese coins and they are from the late 1700's to mid 1850's. The area I'm hunting used to be a settlment for the workers who built the oil fields in the early 1900's. Even though they have little monetary value they were cool to find. If I could figure out how to post pics I'll get them up.
