Best coil for MXT PRO for Relics

Decisions, Decisions. I have been throwing around the idea for a larger search coil for my MXT PRO for relic hunting here in Georgia. Concentric vs D2 coils, what size? I spoke via email with Richard from Backwoods Detecting and he gave me some much appreciated advice. I have pretty much ruled out the 15' Max coil for it seems to be a beast, somewhat large and cumbersome. I'm sure it's a deep reading coil, but I want a larger coil that would be more friendly to the arms after a while of swinging. What would be anyone's thoughts here on a Super 12' Concentric coil vs. the Ultimate 13' D2 coil for hunting relics in our red clay here in North Georgia? I am still doing some research on these two. I don't want to make a mistake as to the right coil. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

One of the guys here has had good luck with a 10x12 SEF. I think he said he was able to ID a dime at 10"".

That would be me and I didn't post earlier because I am not a relic hunter but I can tell you that the 10X12 SEF is a great deep seeking coil on my MXT. The place that I test my metal detectors is in almost perfect ground with no metal that would cause masking and no EMI. The ground is sandy loam and the coins have been buried for 2-3 years. I can get a good tone and ID on a 6" deep IH, 10" Deep 1964 sliver dime, and a 12" deep silver 1964 Quarter. I don't use this test to replicate hunting conditions but merely to test the good case scenario depth of my machines. The M6 with the same coils will do the same with a little bit of struggle on the Quarter.

6x8 is what I use on the mxt all pro I don't like the dd coil that comes with it nothing but the d2 coil with a different sticker and the coil covers are inter changeable. The mxt all pro and 6x8 sef are killer combos had a lot of luck with it and its all I use. vanzutphen

If I had to pick a large coil to use......I guess it would come down to the 12" or the 10 x 12 sef. I would prob take the 10 x 12 SEF 1st because it does do a good job for a large coil and is about the easiest to swing and blances good. The 12" Coil from Whites is heavy and clumsy. Where the rod attaches to the coil is off towards the edge of the coil and not in the center like the SEF. Does not balance well and coil seems to wanna tip all the time.

EXACTLY!

One coil that could work very well on your MXT and your type of detecting is the 12'' Hotshot coil, although not made any more you may be able to still pick one up,they are deep especially for relic hunting and also they are very light for a 12'' coil.

The worst one that i have ever used is the Whites 1400DD coil it performs reasonably well but the weight was the biggest killer, but if i use my DFX/MXT for deep pasture work or elic hunting then the Hotshot coil is the one that i always bring out to play.

6x9 DD has brought many a relics home for me. Easy to manueveur around with in the woods and fields. I suggest yountake a look at it as an option.
