Best coil for mxt for the beach....

When we take our 30th anniversary trip to some beach in 2009(probably Mexico), I'd like to take my mxt with me. Is there any one best coil for hunting the sand(wet and dry)??
I probably can't take a bunch of coils with me so the best one that will kind of meet all needs will get the nod. Thanks in advance and HH. Bob.

Bigfoot coil would be real nice but not sure how it would act with salt, One of the larger DD coils to cover ground.

BIG congrats on your upcoming 30 years together. I have used the BigFoot coil on the beaches of Mexico. Did great and what a big sweep! If you don't have the BigFoot, what coils do you have? Thanks, Nancy

I used DD coils on the Gulf beaches in Texas. At first I used a 8" and then I got a 6x10, both worked fine. Now that I have the 10" it should work even better because it gets deeper. The Bigfoot should cover a lot of sand but I thought it wasn't known for being very deep. Rob

My 10'' dd ex coil work pretty good at lake Erie beach fresh water,as does my 6'' ex coil best i have so far for beach here.

The MXT in salt mode should allow you to use any coil that you want Bob. On the low mineralized white sandy beaches of Mexico you could expect depths of 12 inches with the Bigfoot on larger coins, less on smaller jewelry and small coins. The beaches are packed during the sunny "prime-time" so detecting would be best from sun up to about 9 AM and again, the last couple of hours before sunset. The entire beach of Mexico belongs to the government and is open to detecting, so you are not limited to just your resort area. For Nancy and I, we liked to cover the most area in the shortest amount of allowed time, but the other method is to hunt slow and deep to find what others have passed up. Of course, the prime place to hunt for gold is in the water with a water machine and I bought a Beachhunter ID just for that reason when we went. Unfortunately, the surf was rough while we were down there and all of our hunting was limited to the dry sand.

You should have a blast hunting there as we did. We found enough peso's to leave a very nice tip for the maid for the entire week and still had enough left over to buy a round of refreshments for our party of six before boarding the plane and still brought back memento's from the hunt. The cherry on the top was finding and returning to owners, two lost rings.

Mexico would be a great choice for a getaway/hunting vacation.

stock coil, a 6 inch eclipse round coil and the 6x9 eclipse coil right now. I'm going to check into the large 12" coil and see if I can justify the cost enough to buy one just for a trip to the beach. Not many beaches up here in Nebraska to hunt and I don't have the time to devote to water hunting along with farms, ranches, parks, yards etc... Grandkids, work, yardwork, other hobbies, you know how it is. thanks for the replies everyone and HH. Bob.

Based on what Larry said, "On the low mineralized white sandy beaches of Mexico you could expect depths of 12 inches with the Bigfoot on larger coins, less on smaller jewelry and small coins" , I wouldn't bother with the 6" coil. You need to cover a larger area. Since the sand has low mineralization either your stock or 6x10 would work. The stock would be deeper. $250 to buy the 12" for one trip doesn't seem worth it. Use what you have and have fun. Rob

The BigFoot gets at least 10" on the beach. You're right, it doesn't get very deep, but most beach finds are pretty shallow. I know I'll be told different on that statement. Guess it's one's own preference as to what coil they like best. And now there's many wonderful coils out there. HH to all, Nancy

I had good luck on the beaches of Southern California with the 6 X 10 DD coil.

Destroyed my Bigfoot, replaced it with a SEF 10x12, it is much deeper, wouldn't switch back.

3x18 bigfoot if you can find one would have some great coverage, you can also use it at sports fields and large fair/carnival areas to clean up after the events...

Stock Coil would work fine at the beach in mex it sounds like no need to spend cash for a 12". If your looking to add a coil tho check out the 10"excel and the 10x12 sef's
