Best choice for an Xmas present

I want to upgrade my Mom's Fisher 1236 X2 for Christmas with either the ML Xterra 70 or a Fisher F70. I am leaning towards the Xterra but my Mom's has become accustomed to turning the 1236 on and detecting and I want to make sure that a new detector will not be too complex. I was pretty sure that both of these detector options had some sort of
 
I have a X70 and a F70. Go with the X70 for the type of hunting you described. It is the most versatile and easy to use machines out there. The ground balance options may prove invaluable.

To me the X-70 would be the choice. Once you set up the machine up once it's ready to go. When I get to a place I'm going to detect all I do is GB and it's good to go. The versatility the X-70 delivers is more than well worth the very short learning curve for a beginner, (to the X-70). She'll learn to love the sweeeet tone the X-70 gives out when it finds a dime or quarter.

Yes an X-Terra 70 for sure for your mom but if you have the exrta $'s you may want to look at the new E-Trac as well. She could start with the preset programs--patterns that are easy to start with...
