Best buy on wetsuit?

rmptr

New member
Thanks for reading!

I would like opinions from all which farmer john wetsuit is best deal for surf hunting winter in CA.

Also which booties.

Unfortunately price will be a consideration at this time, but I'll do it again for summer diving.

It's probably gonna take me a 2xxl.

What kind, thickness, and where would you buy?

and since I'm asking, what led headlamp is best for MD at beach?

Thanks

Boaters World or Mac's== They usually have a close out sale or discountinued styles for dive suits. Dive boot also.

I found a farmer john wet suit (3mm) at local dive shop, it was discontinued model for 40.00. I have Mears boots and gloves. Had them for 6 months and they still work great just a little worn. Gloves were 20.00 and boot 35.00. I am in Fla. so I wear Farmer john suite with Tri-athlete shirt under it, but not good for cool weather. Try to find a place to try the suit on if you are not sure on the size. Good luck and HH

Hi there, If the water is cold then I would recommend a 7x5mm wet suit, or even a simple 5mm will do, dive boots to match, and a good set of gloves (kevlar lined are good) If you can't afford the above, a good idea is to layby or hire purchase. Some dive shops sell second hand Wet suits in reasonable condition as they upgrade to newer versions. If you can it's a good idea to own your own Mask, snorkel (ultradry types for diving under the incoming waves), dive boots, weight belt and weights, also fins. Hope this helps HH regards Nugget.:)

Thanks for all the advice!

Am on a budget so must ask for advice first...

Think I'd rather be 1st to p in it, though.

will look for 7x5 not because it's so cold, but because I'm a wimpy ca native!
sun goes behind a cloud and we think its early winter.

Actually its 44* @ noon here, 20 miles from beach... www says 81* in Miami.
I'll pass on a 3mm for now. maybe in summer.

Guess I'll shop for henderson gold core online but unless they got TFG size listed
I'll take advice and try& buy local before purchase.

TallFatGuy may not be most popular seller.

I have 2 wet suits, a full body 2mm Parkway and a 3mm Henderson Gold Core shorty/farmjohn combo. The Henderson is my favorite by far as it is more flexible to a wider range of temperatures. Shorty for shoulder season, farmer john as it gets colder and height of winter both pieces together which gives me 3mm on my arms and legs plus 6mm on my torso. Your temperatures are a bit colder than mine and the water temp is also cooler. Don't size the suit too tight as this will limit your mobility and put pressure on your spine which results in a sore back after a long hunt. My Parkway is a size to large and that is the only reason I wear it, usually when my back is sore. Be careful when you dry the wetsuit (rinse well after a hunt to clear out the salt and the p) as the gold core lining does not like sunlight and if it starts to break down it will give you a rash unless you wear a liner (I just use a T-shirt and underwear).

Cheers,

Thanks bda,

You must be in warm water!

Our w temps run 50-60.
Must be the arctic current running down the coast.

I was out shopping the web for Henderson & can't afford those
but 7mm Akona is within reach. Gotta get my machines to pay for it!

It just occurred to me being in surf during winter is also cold wind!
Double bad.. I'm sure I will go 7mm.

Certainly appreciate advice from your end of the pond though!
