Best Beach Scoop??

Hi All,

I was wondering what other MD's use for Beach Scoops. I am looking for one to use with my foot. Thanks for any suggestions.

Kevin

hey Kevin , Try out the sunspot scoops. I have 2 of them one for me and one for the wife. Their strong and dependable and probably the best out there. And "IF" you ever want to sell them, they don't loose their re-sale value. (but I doubt that you will ever sell it.)
Rusty, Chicago.
PS. Kaptainkosmic DOES have an awsome scoop also ! I bought one last year Just like the sunspot but with new added improvements. I bought the original one he made. He supposed to be comming out with a smaller
model. Thats the one I'M WAITING FOR.

Stainless on your left (RTG)
Aluminum in the middle (BB)
Aluminum on the right (RTG) This is a small scoop for Bia

i have now added the little middle handle to all my scoops

it makes a good scoop great

alum. scoop is by babb's

s/s scoop is by reiley's

I use the Babbs scoop with the stainless lip and the sunspot stealth.

Hello,
here is mine.I got it on ebay.
Very good construction, probably it is laser cut.

Advantages:
Light and surgical. Removes sand in a flash.

Cons: not as robust as it seems. I had to make some reinforcing soldering. It is too surgical. In murky waters I have difficutly to catch the object. Somethimes I have to giveup. In clear water it is perfect.

I would change it for a monster (heavier?) scoop anyway. I can't spend 15 minutes digging a nail!

Yes I did make it. I own a sheet metal shop and got into water detecting last year. Thought I could come up with a better mouse trap so to speak. Some of the guys like the straight handle and some don't.
I like the wood cause it floats. The design is a work in progress any suggestions? Steve

your scoop has a nice design, looks like it would work well in dry sand also.
i like the scoop that i build just for the reason that you mention. i usually get the target in the first scoop not always but pretty consistently. its also very stout. i raised cain with mine last year testing it and it withstood everything that i threw at it. it is one heavy pot licker though 6#. i hunt in michigan and so far the worst bottom that i have dealt with is clay. hh steve

Hello,

it empties in a flash but I recommend it only for clear waters.

Cheers

Where did you have to solder it? Would you want to sell it? It looks small enough to fit my small car. please email me if interested at

I have one of these little guys and have no problem with it. I talked with the guy who builds them and he uses them in MICHIGAN. The reason for the small size is to keep you from wearing out quickly from lifting heavy loads every time you scoop.
Ole Vic was the forman of the Mechanical Trades Shop at the University. The guy was about 6' 4" mabye 375. He always told me the way to move a big pile of dirt is with small & easy scoops with a medium shovel. Big scoops with a big shovel will wear you out in nothing flat. I have used mine for hours with no fatigue and yes I will buy your if you don't like it. Email me at folbot2001@yahoo.com

Hello,

I had to solder it on the sides where the flat top meets the round scoop. I soldered INOX so no rust problems. at present I'm not selling it. I have no replacement.

Cheers
