Damn, first seated anything, and I gouged the crap out of it.

Line forms at the rear to kick me in the butt.

I can't even see the marks in the photos, must not be too bad! Either way, a great find. I have yet to find a seated quarter. Congrats!

Did you click on the pic to make it bigger? Obvious when it's larger.

That's a sweet looking quarter. I've scratched up my share of finds too. And it seems the better the coin the more likely it gets nicked.

I gouged my first seated Quarter too and it was in real good shape like your's is too so I know how you feel........

Congrat's on your first Seated Quarter

Congrats on the great finds !

Seems like we all tip one with the digger now an then - it's even easier to hit one when it's in the tree roots !

I'm in no way shape or form telling you what to do but ...
I've had good luck "feathering the scratches in" on the surface of silver coins by rubbing the area lightly with very fine steel wool.

Good Luck !

no kicking from me, i feel your pain......we've all done it......its still a cool dig.

Been there.........done that! ( but does it always have to be the nicest coin?!!! ) :rage: Very nice find's, anyway!!

Just be glad it wasnt a key date, I would be happy to dig it and sad I nicked it, it happens to everyone everynow and then, dont sweat it

I'll go on record saying that I've gouged a few........Zincolns and a couple wheats but "knock on wood" haven't plowed into a good one yet. This post will probably be then end of that streak. Does remind me the importance of doing everything right before you stick the digger in the ground. I've only got about four years in the hobby so guess my turns coming no matter. Great hunt Cuffler and Thanks for the reminder. By the way I can't see it in the pic either.

And that seated looks gorgeous, too. For that matter, the barber looks pretty nice, too.
I'm normally pretty careful, but this year I've gouged two deep wheats pretty badly/horribly. I think they were on edge and pinpointed off-center.
Maybe that's what happened to you?

Nice finds, regardless.
:)

Yeah i see the gouge, right arm/shoulder area!
Still a great find and productive day.

Cruffler, you've been promoted in rank in the Old Coin Gouging Club.
We're all members here.
Now where's that club General? LOL

SWEET coins.....!!!! Only dug 5 seated coins ever and of course, the best condidtion one I managed to knick....(not too bad tho)..............

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Wished it didn't happen but it did, life goes on, and there are more
holes to dig.

On an upbeat note, went out today, and believe it or not, found another one, but it's well worn. There
was also a v-nickel in the hole with it. Didn't mangle this one.

Also found a 1890 IH, four wheats.

And another dime trifecta to boot.

Too worn out for pictures, so will have to wait until another thread.

Congratulations on the seated coins. Thanks for the pictures. I've "branded" a few as well.
