Berg Mfg. Co Chicago USA lid?

New member
I dug this while detecting a friends yard the other day. It reads Berg MFG CO Chicago USA. Also it has what looks to be a serial number in the middle on the front. I'm guessing a gas can lid or something along those lines. I couldn't find anything on Berg Manufacturing on google. Its about 2 1/2 inches wide. Any ideas?

It is the cover for a connector plug, for connecting the lights on a semi trailer to the truck.
The part you have ,would be attached to the truck, and protects the contacts from the weather,
when a cord is not plugged in. It had a hinge with a spring ,where it is broke on the side.

Berg is still in business and makes lots of electrical, and air brake parts for trucks.

Thanks you very much sawmill. I figured it was a lid or cap of some sort. Interesting spot to find it. A friend of mines yard that is on a hill so bad i park in his yard to keep my truck from jumping out of gear. His Nissan has cleaned out the ditch a time or two already.

Thanks again!
Cole

Cole, if it is brass ,it is a very early series trailer plug. All of the later series are pot
metal or aluminum. The pointy thing in the center locks the plug in place ,to keep it from
pulling out, when connected. I have broke a few of those myself. :rage:
