belt plate bpdate

I went back over to where I found the belt plate today and didn't find much of anything...But then I went to the cabin up the hill, found a couple of buckles in the yard, poked my head in the cabin and noticed that part of the floor was missing...So I scanned the area a bit, got a good signal (the best of the day) and dug up the other part that connects to the belt plate that I had found other day. What are the odds of that????? I'm not sure if this is the actual one that goes with this particular belt plate or not, but I'm really thrilled none the less.

Hey Joey,
You got two different belt plates there. Now you gotta go back and find the other two parts to each one.
I think the second one you found is going to be civil war era for sure.
Probably a Virginia state seal design.
Hopefully someone else will respond and either correct me or confirm my guess.

Nice find,
Felix

hey hugh, youve got 2 different buckles there. i cant make out a whole lot from the photos[dark] but i think you have the wreath part of a va. tongue and wreath buckle, but may be post war as well. look around some more, just pound the place and get the tongue! its there somewhere. i have to agree with fw, good call. those are both some top shelf finds hugh, great job! find the tongue! that will tell you everything. hh,

Here's a little better photo......I'm really excited w/ this find and plan on going back to find the rest of it....Yee Haw!

There's a tongue that goes inside the round piece you found...and probably older than the US belt plate.
