belt buckle ????

Thought this was a belt buckle but flowery design suggests it was feminine attire. Don't think women wore belts. But the size (aprox 2 x 2 1/2 inches) is close to many belt buckle sizes although there is no hook that would secure it to a belt hole. Was hoping the back view would give someone an idea of what it may be. Looks like the two bands could accomidate a leather belt but maybe also a cloth belt or strap of some kind. There is also the half moon thing on one loop. Could that be a clue as to it's purpose?

That's an interesting piece Bruce. Sorry I don't have any better guesses than your own. The detail is nice ! What type of metal is it ? brass ? It looks like it might be possible to straighten it back out with the right tools and talent. Nice find.

Thanks srf, I think it is interesting also. I scraped the metal and it is not copper or brass. It is a dull grey. Maybe pewter or tin. No idea. I may have the tools to straighten it out but not the talent. I am thinking of just using a hammer and wooden dowel. If it is a soft metal it should reshape easily. If not and it starts to crack I will leave it as it is.
Thanks for the imput.

Maybe a hair pin, Just a guess...

Thanks History Nut. Don't know much about sash buckles so did some online research. There are a lot of different types but I think that may be what it is.
