Copper , somewhat ornate , dime is for size reference.
canvas was till inside and there are tiny teeth in there ,

I believe that is a Lock hasp from a purse or maybe from a diary?
Like a miniature steamer trunk lock

US Army backpack that used this type of buckle.. The OD canvas may well set it??
