Belt Buckle? Or take a guess?

First off I'd like to say I hope these posts are not wearing you guys out. My collection of artifacts has been growing for the last 25 years and some items just bug the baloney out of me wondering what they are. Guess we all feel that way sometime or other. And here is one in the photos. It's thin brass and about 2 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches at the widest points and has a slit on one side and a pin bar on the back but it's really doesn't open like a pin bar only soldiered on both sides. Kinda like it holds a belt on the back and then runs through the slot on the front. It is bent in several places like it should have been flat originally. Any ideas? Is it military? No writing or either side as far as I can see Thanks, Steve

Hi dextersteve
Have you considered a horse harness? It might give you a different angle to research!

No your posts and questions are fine. We all are learning. I searched for over an hour on your heel plated wondering if they might have been for ice or sports. Never could find anything conclusive. Actually your whatzits give me something to do while watching the ugly fluffy white stuff come down EVERY day!

No idea what this is but something ornamental and maybe for a strap for a horse.

It might be a buckle cover protector , to cover the real horse leather buckle to prevent the real buckle from getting snagged. Ezra

Its half of a two piece buckle. The other half would mirror it and have a male hook that slips into this female slot. The attachment would work similar to this....

Example of the front matching on both sides with the exception that one half would likely overlap the other to cover up the gap in the center(yours looks like it would fit pretty tight so may not have had any overlap like this example)....

Hey thanks everyone for your responses to my questions. I think you hit the nail on the head this time Aaron. Your example looks much prettier than mine also. Beautiful day here today Scuba. High of 55 no wind and plenty of sunshine. Sorry you are having alot of snow. Steve
