Went down to Nortern Missouri today to help two guys to hunt an old cabin site where they eye-balled an 1831 English large cent last spring. One of them had a Whites Prizm III, but had no idea how to use it, so I spent the first hour showing them how to set it up and use it- then every time they got a signal I had to go show them how to pinpoint and find the target as they would lose it!
Needless to say, I didn't get much detecting done! After about an hour, they called me over to ask if I knew what the crusty large disc they had found was-- I had to scrape off the crud to see that it was an 1834 Republic of Mexico 8 Reales!! They had no idea- they thought it was junk, and were going to toss it!
I ended up finding 4 flat and 1 fancy buttons, several musket balls and several Henry 44 & 32 reg. casings and other assorted items.
I gave them everything as they are trying to develop a display from the site.
