Beginner's Guide

I applaud MINLABBOB for his attempt to start a beginner's guide for new users. I have had my 3030 for over a year and have many enjoyable hours using the the machine. I am seventy years old and every time I pick up the machine, after not using it for a while, it is almost like starting with a new machine. I am sure that it is just age but I bet others of a similar age have the same problem. I have watched videos about using the machine and some of them I think are very good but they move so fast that they are difficult to follow. The exchange component is very useful when you have a way to access it but not of any value when out in the field and you want to make changes to the machine. I would like some knowledgeable user to make a laminated card that can be carried in the field that shows how to make some of the program changes. An example would be going from auto to manual. For new users and older people it should be a little more detailed than the manual and easier to follow.
I have read posts where someone does not choose to buy the CTX because of what has been written in the forum about it being complicated. It is an excellent machine and can be used with the set programs. It would just be nice to make a few changes in the field.

Congratulations on your ability to continue detecting at 70! I am 71 and get out whenever I can as well. Don't worry about having to re-learn the CTX after a long layoff. It happens to the best of us.
I am excited about picking up a copy of Any Sabisch's new CTX guide as soon as it comes out. I loved his guide for the E-trac and it gave me some tips and ideas that the manual did not cover.
Happy Hunting

Congrats to both of you guys. I'm 53 and can't remember what I had for lunch.

Way to go TCP & Chuck - you guys are great examples.

I'm right there with you Todd, 53 and forgetful, and hope I'm still detecting at 70+.

I watched the new Mission Impossible movie last weekend and can't believe Tom Cruise is the same age we are. I need to start working out!

YA BOYS
there is no age limit to this game the only thing is getting back up after 20+ holes or so

KEEP SWINGING TO YOU POP OR DROP!!!!!!!!

Hey I am 71 and will be 72 in a couple months, Lord willing, and I haven't figured out yet what I am going to do when I grow up! Age is relative I know a lot of 40's years old that are older than me. Do what you can don't judge yourself by what others can and do do. Satchel Paige once said when asked how old he was replied "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are!"
