Hello!
(my first contribution inside this forum. My Name is Niclas, I

Do you want a water proof machine? Do you want to hunt other locations than beaches? What is your price range? I would say a good all around detector that works well on beaches coil wet and land would be the Whites DFX, but I am partial to them as I use one. It is very stable on wet salty sand, as well as great for inland. It definitely has room to grow, as it has many adjustable features. I am sure some others here can suggest different options depending on what price range you are looking at and your other hunting desires. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Thank you Shawn!
Price range,, lets say 300$ +-50$

Maby the Garrett ACE 150 is a good tool to start out with?

Hmm, salty (but quite dry) beaches maby up to 90-95% of the time.

One problem here where I live,, is that you need special permission to use those tools.. tragic.. but I guess that leavs more for us enthusiasts to find.. :)

Welcome Niclas to the hobby and the forum.. There a alot of good detectors out there, Garrett being one of them. However for the price difference if you are considering a 150 You should also consider the 250 or even the Tesoro Silver uMax. Remember to post your finds..

Welcome!!! Get the ACE 250!!!

Being over there I'd look at http://www.xpmetaldetectors.com/uk/portail1.html they have a very good product. Dan

welcome to the hobby and to the forum. remember, half the fun is just getting out and enjoying life....the other half...finding the good stuff.. good luck in your quest for buried treasure....listen to the people on here, they are smart. HH :detecting:

As said above I would skip the 150 and go for the 250, another detector that has been doing well in that price range is the fisher F2, you can read how it is doing for folks in the Fisher forum here. I also hear good things about the Tesoro silver uMax, but keep in mind that the Tesoro does not have TID, so basically it does not have the screen that tries to ID the targets for you or tell you how deep to dig when you pinpoint like the ace250 and F2. Good Luck, keep us posted on what you decide.

Im new too. I use the Ace 250 @ the beaches here in Southern California. It works great in the dry sand, as well as the wet sand. I was even able to use it in a couple inches of water, but be careful, you have to keep the electronics in the main housing dry. I highly recommend this machine. Its easy to use and very powerful. I was pulling coins from up to 10 inches out of the sand!

I attached a photo with my first beach finds. I found a silver ring that day! HH
