Just bought a Lexmark X73 all in one(printer/scanner etc.). I'm on AOL ISP, It has space available for me to use for ftp. Really don't want to spend alot on software to post pics on forums. What free or cheap software would be good and easy to use for a beginner? Never used a scanner or posted anything. Would appreciate any help, Thanks in advance! Thanks for stopping by the Guvner's photo site here. I'm not familiar with the Lexmark equipment but you say it has a scanner and you should be able to scan pictures to post here or elsewhere. Read the manual and see if it has a way to scan pictures for the internet. Pictures should not be over 100K in size and no larger than 640 by 480 so we don't have to scroll up and down or sideways when viewing the pic. If they are larger than 100K it takes us poor guys with 56K telephone modems too long to open them up. I know this isn't much help but perhaps Royal or RM can help you with free editing programs (where you can adjust your picture's brightness, sharpness, contrast etc.) Are you sure your Lexmark doesn't have a photo editing program?

Carl Miller is an expert on different ways to post pictures and how to re-size pictures for posting on the forums as well as an expert photographer. I assume you will have to convert your scans to JPEG to post on these forums. Rick Martin is a professional photographer and is the forum moderator. I do not know if either can help you with scans for the forums as this is a different ball game and neither may be familiar with the Lexmark you have. My scanner will scan to different editing programs where I can re-size them to post on forums. Hopefully Carl or Rick can find a free program that might be useful for you. One that comes in mind is IrfanView (free). You might download it and check it out. Posting pics on the internet can be frustrating until you develop your own method. The main problem is typing in the URL correctly as everything is case sensitive and must be typed correctly. If Royal Ottmar can do it anyone can as he is almost an ole man. Hang in there and learn all you can about your Lexmark.
