Before I go out and buy......

Before I go out and buy the Silver uMax, I need to ask the
experts here about the Cibola. I've seen the two on the Tesoro
website and read the field reports, but I'd rather hear from you all
who have owned it.

It seems to be the same as the Silver except that it has a pinpoint,
three frequency settings for when your in a group compitition, and
an adjustable threshold. Besides those goodies, I don't see much
difference. Oh, I see the Cibola has a few more coils available that
the Silver. That may be helpful

I'm not into MD compititions so the three frequencies don't hold much
interest to me. Of course I like the auto pinpoint button.
But how useful would the threshold be?

In a nutshell, how does it compare to the Silver in the field. Will it
get any deeper? What are your likes and dislikes.

It depends on the type of hunting you will do.I live were there is no minerals in the ground but if you want to go deeper for the older coins even if your area has good ground i would just go for a manual ground balance detector like the Vaquero or the Tejon. The Tejon is a little deeper than the Vaquero. The Tejon has a modulated type audio were the signal will go weaker as you get farther away from the target. The Vaquero has a un-modulated type of audio were the deeper targets sound loud were you have to lift the coil to tell if it is deep. The Tejon i really believe is the best detector there is right now.It will signal a quarter at twelve inches. It just depends if you want to go after deeper targets or not.If you do then you need a Vaquero or a Tejon.

Never owned the silver but I can tell that the cibola is a real good machine, the pinpoint gives you accurate sizing of the target and the threshold adjustment will allow you to supertune the machine. I've also had the tejon and currently use the vaquero. If you mostly coin hunt go with the V it'll hit harder on the clad/silver, but I have to tell you it does very good on the relics also, if you have the patience for a chatty machine, like lots of knobs/dual disc and are mostly into relics (likes nickels) go for the T. But you didn't ask about these two just thought I'd give you my two cents worth.

- - for the same T/G, beep-dig operating regime, why give up the added sensitivity if you can afford to have it? You wont note a spit's worth of difference in the way they function afield, but when the need arises for that little bit more, it will be there.

What do you mean by supertune the machine. What is it and how does it help in MDing?
Also HOW do you supertune.

Yes, I was looking at the Vaquero as well.

I am interested in the deeper targets because the area I am detecting in this old town has been
hit several times. Some of the People who LIVE in the town have detectors as well.

I am really looking for a back up machine. My MXT is on its way to the repair shop in Sweet Home OR
and all I have to fall back on is my Ace 250. Its a nice little machine for the parks and ball fields but
its depth is not very impressive. When I read the comments of Silver and Cibola owners
praising their depth of their machines I thought one of these might to the trick.

Max out threshold and turn the sensitivity as high as possible without chatter (personal preferance), it makes those deeper targets come in clearer. You won't be able to use your pinpoint when supertuned, really don't need it anyway, response is really quick.

Hi Katz, I am not trying to brag or think that I know it all but I would be more than happy to talk to you on the phone and discuss super tuning, or any other question you might have. I am going to pm you my phone number, you are welcome to call me any time between 6:00pm - 10:00pm Eastern time. Check you pm's. Thanks! Steve.

More before you purchased.Just talk everything out. What you need & want.SkiWhiz knows a lot.Just remember a manual ground balance detector is more versatile and will go deeper.

would be to go for a more versatile model. It can be a current, new vaquero, or a used Vaquero, Eldorado
