before I buy a GTI2500, a couple questions please.

Hello,
I was just about to purchase a new GTI 2500, from kellyco or maybe Aardvark sales on ebay. Anyway I was wondering when was it that Garrett put the new chip in the new models of the GTI2500, to assist in heavy mineralized ground. I want to know what my chances are of getting one of the older versions on accident.
Also, I have a question about the coil cover for the 2500 stock coil. I notice that the coil cover does not conform to the exact mold of the stock coil. I was wondering if you all find that to be a pain? To me it looks like the coil will collect allot of dirt. Does the cover stay on well and does it make this already heavy detector heavier. I know these questions seem picky, But hey I am the OCD detectorist...lol
Thanks
Jason

As I said in my other post I believe last August or September. You can contact Mary Penson at Garrett and get a better fix on that.

I don't use a coil cover myself as the coil is tough enough for me. And coil covers do collect moisture and debris and need to be cleaned out every so often.

Just makes sense to me using a coil cover; that
coil will take some abuse over the years.

Easy enough to clean out the cover when you clean
your machine.

If you don't like the cover, consider epoxy.
