converted my short handle to a long handle, easier on the back, push the shovel in the ground ,push the handle down with the left foot ,out pops a nice plug. large plugs heal quicker than a small one. from a distance looks like a walking stick, and it does make a nice walking stick

There will be some debate on this one John. I used a small shovel for relic hunting but didnt care for the size of hole it made. Pretty impossible to use if you miss you pin pointing. The small hole made with a butcher knife always woked best for me. It was fast, deep and very clean. Im not certain the big plugs heal any better, kind of depends on the time of the year and rain it gets. They do stay in place a little better and arent pulled up by the big mowers. If you use that anywhere near a public you might get blaimed for every how anything or anybody digs. But it looks good.

I agree...I would not use this in public places... In a farmfield..u bet..but certainly not in someone's yard or a park..The best tool by far is the letsche digger.. I've been doing private areas for years and tend to go back to the good ones over and over..On deeper readings , I Make a deep u shaped cut as deep as the knife allows .. retrieve the coin..either in the hole with the aid of a pinpointer...or in the flopped over hinge..then replace all dirt back in hole and flop the wedge back over..by keeping a bigger hinge on one side .. and keeping it deep..it doesn't dry out and stays in place..and has always allowed me an invitation back to the yard...I try to do this during the spring while the ground is wet.. mid summer is a bad time to detect nice yards as it ussually leaves marks in the yard.. just don't like giving people more ammunition against this fun hobby..and shovels tend to do so ... I have used a small shovel when in a wooded area or a field though... good luck and happy hunting..I'm headed out right now.

Think I would get shot using that in a park..will stick to my lesche...nice idea tho in the woods..etc.
