BEFOR -METALDETECTORS CAME ALONG

i was thinking today , befor metal detectors came along , what happened when a coin was lost ? i know doday we talk of the cladd count this is modern .owr cladd always someone using a metal detector and finding it but it seems thear is plenty of cladd but befor metal detectors the coins just kept building up year after year no one was going to parks to scan whith metaldetectors so i can see the value of finding an older site if you could find everything lost form 1890 to 1950 you would have a hord of silver coins and rings somthing to think about

that the loss of a single silver coin back in the 1800's could have been BAD news to the owner.
Every time I find a old silver coin from the 1800's it makes me think about what affect the loss had to it's owner.
Did it mean that his/her family did without food, heating oil, medicine or whatever ... or was it from some rich guy's pocket who could care less that he lost it ?
