today, my first try, i only dug on strong signals. the 'crackle' beeps i ignored. is this right to do?

I am breaking in a new machine myself and still trying to learn the way this machine responds to targets. Myself I am digging everything that it beeps on I figure the more accustomed I get to the various tone (solid/crackle) the more I will be able to tell upon engagement what the item will be. I think if you get used to your settings and the tone you will eventually be able to get a real good idea what is laying below your coil. Just a thought....

There a lot of variations in what you may hear.

A good target being masked can sound different ways. It may
start to be a good signal and suddenly sound like trash. It
may not repeat in every direction. But if it keeps repeating in the
same direction, I will always dig it. There are lots of situations
that may make a good target not sound so good. Only one way
to be sure, and that's to dig it. I dig all the trashy stuff at the
beginning of any site to know what I'm dealing with. Sometimes
cherry picking won't tell you what's going on.

HH,

I guess "foreign" coins can show up anywhere. Keep at it sounds like you are getting the hang of it.
