Been tweaking the DFX , trying some different changesand test driving it in the pasture...

Last weekend, I went detecting with Greg (Mountain Man), and he got a signal with his MXT that was deep. He was getting a good response, but I was unable to pick up anything with the DFX, even in pinpoint mode. Greg finally quit digging for the target after about 2 feet.

So today, I have been messing with my settings on my DFX. I would go out into the pasture, and see how they worked, then come back, and reprogram it a little different, and repeat the process. The picture below is just some of the stuff I've found today. I didn't include four old plow points, and a lot of big iron. Best finds in the photograph are the two flat buttons. There is a hunk of lead from somebody's "mines", and two corroded pennies, probably wheatbacks.

After spending several hours today tweaking, I've just about come full circle from where I started from, as far as my settings. I still feel confident that the DFX will let me know if there's something good under the coil. All this stuff was 4 to 10 inches deep (the ring). I can't help but wonder if Mountain Man didn't leave a cannon ball in the ground.

than I do. I had a DFX but sold it a couple of years ago because it was smarter than me. I remember you telling me once in a post that sometimes you had to set your XLT down and just walk away from it... I finally got the old MXT I Friday that I won on an e-bay auction. Hoping I have some good luck with it when I hit the beach in CA next Sunday.
Congrats on your persistence and nice finds.

I have the DFX-MXT--I have done some testing off and on,I feel the MXT does go somewhat deeper Because the MXT is a more stable machine when BOTH are cranked to Max. There are times when I can run the DFX at 4-and the AC at Max but those times are far apart--With the MXT I can always run it at Max It may spit and sputter But I can always tell the falsing from the good stuff--What would tell you something is to Borrow Mt. Mans MXT and spend a day playing with both of them--I can usually use 4 on the DFX but it is hard to push it past 72--I could Never get to run anything past 3-68 till Whites replaced the Mother Board,Till then It falsed %99 of the time--That was the reason I bought the MXT--I still use the MXT almost all the time cause I gave the DFX to my son in law to keep at his house----The way things are going where I work I am thinking of Shooting The Can somewhere between (Dec. 06) or (May 1 07) They are making my life HELL saying out of the Blue my work is not good enough--It is NOT my Boss he told me I do a GOOD job--It is the Superintendent and A secretary that are raising Hell--I could not hardly move this weekend because I put in so much effort to try to satisfy them--If I was 60 again it would not bother me BUT being almost 71 it hurts like hell to push it this much--Any way try both together BY YOUR SELF as thats the only way to see if the MXT does go deeper--I THINK I am going to sell BOTH when the DEX is replaced and just have 1 detector--When I do Retire I am Selling the 1 piece of property I still own besides where I live-( I had to sell the third piece when I got my divorce to pay bills she made for me-------That would put about $300,000 in my checking acount then I could go see THE DESERT IN BLOOM Which Is The 1 thing I have To Do (Before I Kick The Bucket)-----Boy I Can Get Long Winded When I Get Started)
