to break away last evening...
Headed down to the Palace Theater ( http://www.palacetheaterct.org ) last evening to attend the WaterBury, CT (duh Ghetto) Screening of Ken Burns' WW-II Epic "The War".
Folks, I was blown away... This is a must see for any "boomer" like myself... Or anyone with a relative who fought... Or has been directly involved with the WW-II War Effort. But most important, it is intended to serve as factual documentation for all of the kids today who actually believe that we fought WW-II with Germany as an Allie ... (GO FIGURE WHAT THE KIDS ARE BEING TAUGHT TODAY!!) In my case, My Dad... Navy, Decorated, STILL WITH US TOO!!! (Thank God!!)
Not only is the Theater a "World Class Venue" (I spent all kinds of money & time as a kid in there ) ... The presentation was superb. Wayne and I marvelled at all of the gold leaf in that place.... NOPE, left the leaf in place...
I had a hard time keeping a dry eye (along with 3300 others ) Whatta night!! All kinds of WW-II Veterans, VietNam Veterans and Gulf War Veterans were in attendance and honored by Ken (yep he was there ALL DAY!!) as well as the entire audience. I went with my very good friend, Wayne, who is an Air Force Veteran... A C-130 "Puff The Majic Dragon" guy... hehehe..... The standing o's were many and the applause, THUNDEROUS ....
JIC, here's a link to our PBS Station http://www.cptv.org/local/special/thewar/ for PBS Scheduling....
IMHO, Ken's baby is a MUST see... plus, you'll get an opportunity to see my hometown, plus friends and relatives... ALL in their heyday. BTW, Mom still stays in touch with Olga (you'll meet her ) BUT I haven't seen her daughter in years... Hmmmmmmmmmm....
Just a P.S.A. for those of you interested in (to quote Quincy Jones) "Stuff Like That"....
duh Gaff
