Have gotten alot of info and always get replies from you all when I have a question. Well I got another question, If the size of a coil plays a big part in that coils depth, which I do not doubt, What makes any of you think the stock coil could even compete with the 14 inch excellerator ?? Since I have had the excellerator I gave air test comparrisons, posted my finds and depth, went out in the garden and found coins with the excellerator that the stock coil could not find. Maybe the 4x6 mini coil will reach deeper than the 5 inch excellerator, since it is physically larger but on the other hand wouldn't the coil with the smaller foot print separate better ?? We all like to test drive a car before we buy them but dern we talking about a 180 dollar coil. Just curious, how many of you got to try out the mxt before you bought it ? Or the eclipse coils ?? If every one is happy with that "BEST" coil they have then why all the interest in these aftermarket coils ?? I aint tryin to push any coils and what I post is what I find and I post if I like an item or not and if it were crap that is just what I would call it. I paid a little over 700 bucks for the mxt cause I wanted a detector that would do a great job, why would I turn around a put something on the end of it that didn't do worth a dern .All I'm saying is that them after market coils are the best things I have put on the mxt. If you got a coil to sell thats great but why trash someone else stuff to make yours look good ??? One more thought, if these coils are hype why does it seem that they are always what someone is comparing another coil to ??? Anyways I wouldn't take anything for the coils I got and hope everyone else feels the same then everyone should be happy and diggin much treasure.

I agree with what you said. Larger coils generally detect deeper and smaller coils generally separate better. DD coils are better in highly mineralized soil than concentric coils. Different sized coils made by the same manufacturer are no different. The larger Eclipse goes deeper than the shooter Eclipse. The Shooter separates better. 14 inch Excelerator goes deeper than the 5 inch Excelerator. The 5 inch separates better. When you consider the area each coil covers and the pattern of detection, it just makes sense. But, some folks are just skeptics. They are quick to criticize what they don't understand. In reality, these folks are only hurting themselves. They avoid shelling out the extra bucks for an accessory that might encourage them to do more hunting. At least more finding! Same people that buy that new car you mentioned with an AM radio and then don't believe your music sounds better cause it is in stereo. Different strokes for different folks. Keep posting your finds. And your opinions. That is what these forums are all about. Those of us who have gotten to know you through these forums recognize you to be an honest man and we enjoy your opinions. HH

Hi Ray,
I'm a White's dealer... one of the largest on the West Coast. But I bought an 18" EXcelerator from Kellyco, the guys all dealers are supposed to hate.
Why? Well, for one I'm into detecting more than selling. Second, I wanted max ground coverage (not depth) from my MXT and an 18" coil filled the bill.
The coil is not perfect. None are. But it is doing what I want so far, and White's offers no alternative.
I am a Minelab dealer also. All I can say is that I owe thanks to Coiltek for the same reason I owe thanks to Kellyco. Third party people willing to make coils the manufacturers will not, for reasons we all wonder about. If Kellyco and Coiltek can make a buck at it, why give up the business? But the big guys do, and so we buy elsewhere.
Whose fault is that?

Hi Steve,
Could you give some numbers when you compare 18" EXcelerator with stock coil?
And pls mention mineralization.
Thanks

.....they come out with a 24 inch coil on wheels that I can remote control from my easy chair on the sideline of that large soccer field that I want to cover every square inch of the playing area.
I would also want to be able to remotely drop flags at all good targets so that once completed I could just walk to those areas and dig. Of course each flag would give me the VDI and depth reading as well.
Now we haven't talked about automated digging tools have we ?....
If your going to dream... DREAM BIG...
I enjoy all of these post since it adds to my knowledge level. I would agree with Steve that an excelerator coil for me would be solely used to cover more ground. This old man has no desire to dig a dime at 12 inches.

Not tryin to take Steves question but did some comparison between the 14 inch coil and the stock. In air test the results were from 1 1/2 to 3 inches difference on coins, A while back I had lost a nickel and a quarter Planted at 8 inches, the ground reads in the 70's in this spot and is a red soil I tried and tried with the stock coil and could not find them, then I got the 14 inch excellerator and found the 2 coins which I remarked, the stock coil would not pick them up, the 14 would, the quater had a bouncing Id in the 80's and the nickel showed as foil. I ran relic mode disc at 3 no threshold and gain on 9, any higher and the stock got noisy. I used the stock coil for about 9 - 10 months before ever thinking about another coil. In the dirt I have not dug any coins over 7-8 inches with the stock coil and 10 - 12 inches in the sand. After I got the excellerator I went back to all the schools and places I had looked with the stock coil and was amazed and the number of coins I had missed (way better coverage )The deepest dime I dug with the stock coil was 6 inches. On one outing at a school I hit hard I dug 2 dimes 9-10 inches that ided as dimes and got a wheat penny at 8 inches, this was with the 14 inch coil, ( a solid 3+ inches deeper) the dimes came from a bare area of soil that I know I went over pretty good with the stock coil, I had dug a class ring and a nice silver ring out of that spot using the stock coil. I could only imagine the coverage of the 18 not to mention It should get real decent depth. After getting the ex. coil I thought about selling the stock coil but figured it would be a good back up if anything should happen to the ex coil. But as many say everyones soil is different and seems like everything except the number of worms in the ground affects depth and stability but in my opinion I don't think you go wrong with these coils. Johnny, When you get that rig hooked up I got some ideas on an automatic digger to hook to it.
And thanks Digger, I enjoy this forum and all the post also, As for the rest of you thanks for all the tips and help over the last year or so helping me figure this tecting thing out. As for Kellyco's add I thing you all may need to look a little closer at which depth claims they are putting beside each coil, They mite be hopped up a bit but are they guilty of anything no one else hasn't done ?? Anyone got an automax II pin pointer?? Measure it, I dug 7-8 quareters as deep and a couple deeper than that pin pointer is long on the beach in Atlantic City NJ. That's all folks !!

Hi,
Well, as far as depth I have to just laugh about the 26" depths on coins stuff!
Like I said, depth of detection is not a giant concern for me for my application. I've only had time for a quick test run. My soil runs 78 with the MXT. The 18" balanced out fine. I buried a nickel at about 10" and it hit fine across the 18" width, which was all I was looking to find out. I did find it was more sensitive to small items than I had hoped, as it picked up a couple beavertails easily. I'd be as happy it missed the smaller stuff, and so may run it a couple inches off the ground. I need to play around with that a bit more.
I do not expect to see large increases in depth on coin size targets. Larger coils do not automatically translate into more depth on coin size items. What I would expect is significantly more depth on larger items. Next week I'll run the MXT with 18" against my GP 3000 with 18" DD and see how they compare on a several ounce gold nugget. Can't swear I'll post my results, however. I get tired of getting flamed over reporting things I have found out, just to be helpful. I'm doing the testing for my own knowledge and am not out to prove anything.

eMail me your results on that test, and I promise I won't call you any wirty-durds.

from field use for the benefit of others.
Most of the soil around here where I hunt in NW Oregon runs in the 76 to 83 range with every MXT I have owned (3), with better ground as low as 71 or 72, and worse ground in the 84-86 range.
Also, like you, I enjoy the larger Excelerator Double-D coils, such as the 12
