I put the F75 down for a few min......
Thanks to Bill Henderson & his son's for inviting me to share in one of their spots..........a river that they have been pulling old bottles & other relics out of. I'm going to do a W&E Treasures article & we have also filmed twice for my version of a "Saving History" DVD.
Here's his son Steven & I showing how we feel around the bottom of the river bed.....I'm pulling out a whole handful of debris.

here's an awesome stoneware ink that Bill found...perhaps the earliest whole piece to surface so far.....

me and a buddy found these 2 marked heartbreakers (mid 1800's stoneware beers?) back to back around the same area. I was so excited I almost dropped the camera in the water! ;) We are hoping to find the tops for a glue job....Mine's the blue one "Perkins and Nuttall". These are highly collectable & I have always wanted to dig one whole as I glued another one in the past.....

This is maybe my favorite looking piece to come out of here..........Bill's amazing black lettered Anchovy Paste from London...

We have found lots more stuff including small items like clay pipes, marbles, etc too...........
here's a nice blob top I got last time. A greenish "Moxie Nerve Food" full of bubbles.....

Finally, we have dug about 25 of these so far...........
me and a few others think they are mill related. Like they held the spools or something. Too big & 2 many to be a stopper......

Hi Bill,
Great stuff!

Just thought I'd drop an email to let you know that the clay plugs you found are stoppers for large demijohns. 5 gallons and larger. We dug a number of them in the 1970's. Pretty cool and a great conversation piece! Keep huntin! How deep does the bottom go? You could use a potato rake and get deeper without hurting the bottles. We've done it for years in the bottom of streams.

Best regards,

Chip in Pittsburgh
