Been a long time since I did this....

I was using my Tracker IV in tone mode trying to overlook the numerous tabs when I hit a large coin spill-which turned out to be pennies. It was tiring pinpointing the numerous signals when I decided to get my Compadre and set the disc at just barely tab level. Easily recovered ALL the pennies and just decided to keep going with the Compadre set this way. Wow! I hit 4 screwcaps at 8"deep and one at a measured 10"! This, a toy? Then came the quarters and the dimes. Thought I was back in the 70's.

Using that broken ruler again..................?
Fits nice in the pocket.

Nice haul with the hot Compadre! Good machine, everyone should experience one.
Remember the first time I ran into a fella with one back in 2005, he showed me finds in his pouch and his box of finds in his truck.
Hunted with him for an hour and couldn't believe the stuff he was digging up where I just walked over with another Tesoro.

Ha! I use a screwdriver with 8" blade and had to make a slit and the blade touched the 4 8" caps with the handle just below the ground and the 10"- well, I had to go down in the hole and touched it with the handle halfway down in the hole. I actually thought it was an aluminum can bottom-although the signal wasn't wide.

Compradre all the Way!!!!:tesoro:

Back in time probably around 1978 went to a organized treasure hunt in Mass. near Cape Cod.
I loaned a White's Coinmaster 2 , entry level unit to my friend to use while I used a more expensive upper end unit.
After the hunt, there was a patch of ground near the woods, we were doing ground testing.
That thing, el cheapo detector, I wouldn't even use for regular hunting surprised us. It picked up buried a penny at 12" .
As I recall the soil was kind of a mostly dirt with a sand mix. Similar to what we have hear in Canada. Everyone was amazed
that it could pick it up with the 8" coil. The other guys could not get a signal on it. Had I been smart I would have kept the detector,
guess it didn't have any bells and whistles, so I sold it. And had I been smarter back then I would have used a lot less discrimination
rejecting pull tabs and the like looking for silver. I would have found a ton of gold that I was walking right over when many areas were still virgin.
I surely missed the boat. A lesson learned too late.

I had the AH Pro when the first great discrimintors came out. i t would pick up a quarter at 5" air test IF you had the threshhold set just right and don't even think about that depth in the ground if freshly dropped. I was at the local fairgrounds-loaded with tabs, when i got a big signal in width. I just KNEW it was an aluminum can, so i jammed my 6" bladed knife in the ground and nothing! I dug out the 6" plug and jammed the blade another 6", expecting it to pierce the can when I heard a "clack" sound. I knew I had done the unthinkable. Out came an 1880's silver dollar. That detector had to have been able to do the signal at 14", as I had it picking it up several inches above the ground. NO halo affect? I don't think so.
