Beaver Tail and Nickel

I ran some test with three chromatic tuner to see if there were any differences between the tones of the Explorer for targets that sound the same to the human ear. As an example does a beaver tail sound a different tone than a nickel? I used three different tuners which included a strobe tuner just to be sure and a nickel and beaver tail sound the same tone. I connected the tuners directly to the headphone output jack of the Explorer11.
I took a beaver tail and nickel since I knew the electronics could reject one and accept the other.I worked with accept and reject and the edit screens so that the beaver tail was rejected and the nickel would give a sound. I then changed some of the settings to see what would happen. I was surprised to see if all I did was turn FAST ON then the beaver tail and nickel were both sounded but if I turned FAST OFF only the nickel was sounded. I realized what had been posted by a factory representative that FAST and DEEP were more involved than just audio boost and fast recovery was very true.
I am not sure if any of this is much value to anyone but it is interesting to me and the way I use the Explorer so thought I would share it on the forum.

In an air test close to the coil to tell the difference but once stuff is in the ground all the other factors would probably make it difficult to discern between the two. From what I can see Golddigger is the Nickel King, and he says he digs tons of beaver tails. I think the only way to consistantly dig nickels, and once in a blue moon gold, is to dig buckets of trash.
Again there is no magic settings, coils, or patterns. It's all a matter playing the odds and each person has to determine how much junk they are willing to dig to get those iffy signals.

Cody,
I have done my last several hunts with only the top 20% of the screen open and the bottom portion of the screen black. Then I used the X1 probe in the edit mode to open the screen using several IH pennies and about 20 nickels (using buffs, war and newer coins).
I have been hunting in the Ferrous mode. I find that I can much better pick out silver coins from the iron (because there is a much greater tone differentiation than using the conductive mode). When the silver is mixed in with the iron you will get that almost insignificant high tone beep (in the Ferrous mode) that was easy for me to miss in the conductive mode.
Now my nickel finds have increased dramatically. But, I find that the pull tabs that have the double hole and no beaver tail hit in the same place as the nickels. As a result I have been digging a lot of those. I have been hunting with Fast on. From you post I gather that if I turn fast off, then I will have less trouble with these particular pull tabs. Do I understand that correctly?
HH,
Glenn

Glenn, I found with the program I am using to reject tabs and accept nickels, using ferrous, I had it set with FAST OFF. When I turned FAST ON to doa little better in heavy trash I no longer was rejecting any beaver tails. I did not make the connection but was messing with the detector today and found what had happened. That was as far as I have had time to go with it but found it interesting enough to post.
