It's been just over 6 weeks since my Excal arrived, Man what a fun 6 weeks this has been. Found a bunch of jewellery, a cannonball and all manner of other stuff. Dropped my stress level (you can't think about work when you are listening to the tones) and dropped 20 lbs of fat by working out on the monster scoop several nights a week.

Here's the Beauty

Here's the Beast

90% of the aluminium trash goes straight in the trash barrel as I exit the beach but the 10% pictured here made it home. Railway spikes from the old Bermuda Railway defunct in the 40's and shipped to south america. All manner of brass and copper marine hardware, including pure copper spikes 6 inches long from the old wooden ships that died in these waters. Brass hotel keys with brass room tags from the resort next door before they went to keyless entry locks (they sound great:sad:). SS and brass prop off a RC boat and chunks of lead, lots and lots of LEAD:rant:, it was used on the old wooden ships and it is everywhere and also sounds very good. Fishing lures and weights plus a few heavily encrusted items that I have soaking to stabilize them before I expose them to the light of day again after who knows how long.

It's a great hobby and always more fun when you can share it with a great bunch of pirates like the ones I find every week on this forum.

HH to All,

My Excalibur does not like deck spikes, rusty tin or nail clippers so I don't know how you managed to dig that junk. It's like you have a P.I. with finds like that!

Are you digging stutter tones?

I like the "BLING" BDA! That's a great deal in just 6 weeks!

The island is several hundred feet of limestone coral on top of an ancient volcanic plateau so the only way you can get mineralization (ferrous) is by manmade objects being brought out into the middle of the Atlantic and dropped here. The aluminium pot lid was dug out at just over 3 feet deep, which should be impossible but there it is. It was found on one of my first hunts and I was too stubborn to stop digging. Now I stop at 2 feet max, it's usually a pop can but sometime it's something kewl like a cannonball.
I'm often amazed by some of the interesting nontreasure stuff that the mainland pirates dig up, as I never find that kind of stuff as there is no industry on the island excepting tax shelters, insurance, banking and tourism.
Variety is what makes the hunt fun as you never know what your going to get in the scoop when you dig that target.

The search area is about 350 yards long by 25 yards wide on average. It is a combination of a private hotel beach and a public beach. The cottage I am renting belonged to the original owner of the hotel so I have private access.

It's been getting quieter as I cleanout all the junk, so hopefully tropical storm Alberto will stir things up for me.

The question is 'what make and model'. I've been using the digital at the office which explains why there is always a delay when I post. Cameras have a 33% duty on top of shipping charges so the prices I see online make me sick when I walk into a camera shop on the island. I need to get back to the mainland before I get island fever (haven't been off island since last Sept.). So maybe I can find a good deal when I am back in Canada.

Imagine how good these would have looked with an underwater camera.

Thanks for the motivation,

You wouldn't believe the metal that leaves my construction site for the airport landfill. It's a sad fact of life when you live in the middle of the Atlantic. It took me a while to adjust to it when I first moved here from Toronto, we recycle everything back home.

Great looking rings congrats :) Looking at your trash looks like you're using a PI :bouncy:
