Beautiful Day For Hunting:

Nancy-IL

Well-known member
We had a high of 78 and low humidity today. Tomorrow is to be about the same. After that, it's to be very HOT.....I'll be staying inside and making quick jolts back and forth to the garden. We went hunting and had a great day. First we went to a private yard. I took pictures of my findings.............. 43 Merc, wheat cents (sorry for the poor picture) and then the Staver Carriage Company of Chicago shield. The saying on the inside circle is "The Staver Is A Stayer".The square nail was above the shield. The other picture is of the back of it. We ended up at a sports field and I was wanting to find a ring, but all I found were a lot of pull-tabs and clad. Larry didn't find any silver, but he's got a big bag of clad to show for today. There's a lot of the field to hunt yet. Maybe another day. Hope others were able to get out. Thanks for looking and HH to all, Nancy

Hi Nancy
Love your pictures especially the Starver Carriage Company of Chicago shield I hope to do as well at Hunting as you have done when I get my MXT. But you know how it is another Bill pops up, back goes the MXT.I have been watching the MXT forum for a while now and I have taken on board a lot of your posts I read them all.
Cheers Wally

Looks like you had a great day Nancy, how do you get your pictures so clear. I use a Kodak digital C533 but when I try to take close up pictures there is a lot of glare and if I don't use the flash it's to dark. Your pictures seam so clear.

Thanks Bob, I have a Casio 750 and all you need to do is take your picture without the flash under good lighting. Hold the camera about a foot away, don't zoom in. Then crop it with your computer program. That's how I do it anyway. You've probably got the Macro feature as do I, but I don't use it much. My problem is moving when taking the picture. Hope this helps. HH and take care, Nancy

Nancy,

Great finds! I have never come close to finding anything as cool as some of your finds. I believe your badge must predate 1890, from what I found on Google. That is when Saver Implement Company merged with Abbott Buggy. " In 1875 he (Henry Staver) became half owner of the Kansas Implement Co., and in 1879 sold out to become secretary of the J. J. Case Plow Co., of Racine, Wis. On its reorganization, in 1884, he became its manager, and in the same year organized the Saver Implement Co., the predecessor of the present company. After six years of success, viz., in 1890, a consolidation was effected with the Abbott Buggy Co., which employed 300 men and owned a very complete plant. The new concern became the Staver & Abbott Manufacturing Co., Mr. Henry C. Staver president and treasurer. Mr. Staver is a type of American unfortunately two uncommon. In politics, a Republican of the Lincoln and Grant type, a plan of temperance in theory and practice, a doer of good among his less fortunate fellows, and a trusty, genial and unswerving friend, he rounds out a composite character that is a credit to manhood." Staver and Abbott went belly up in 1896. Staver died in 1907. http://www.carriagemuseumlibrary.org/staver_&_abbott.htm

Oh my goodness! Thank you for the info on the badge. Very impressive Pete! I tried to do a bit of Google'ing, but was so tired and couldn't keep my eyes open. I've got some more reading to do! Thanks again HH, Nancy

Thats an expensive camera. I looked it up on Google. $450 smackers!!!!!!!
Nice camera though if it can take pictures like that, but what else can it do for that
kind of money? It better be able to jump up and down and play Hail To The Chief! Heck,
I could buy another detector for that price!

You did great Nancy. I always like to see someone finding Mercury dimes as they are my favorite coin next to the walking half. Keep it up. HH Dennis in Idaho
