Beat Up Piece of junk

Sven

Well-known member
Was more than generous with a $$ donation taking this off the clubs hands, a donated a well used IDX Pro. Kept
working with redneck repairs.
This was a better deal for the club that having me restore this unit back to a working stock unit than paying me for labor and parts.
Then probably losing money trying to auction it off.

I have a lot of hours in it now cleaning it up, dried up mud swamp inside the case, leaking battery acid, pounding out control box dents,
priming, painting, there's still a lot to do to get it done.

Since I opted to own it, went thru doing Mr. Bills mods, meter and control box circuit board part changes, GB, Threshold and variable SAT controls.
Replaced all original control pots as well. Just need a couple more matching knobs.

Overall a fun project, I like fixing things up.

It's done and it works great.
I like the adjustable SAT control..........

looks great Sven, meant to be a nice detector , I been looking at a whites for years keep getting drawn to the MX5 so many coil options

well done on the fix have to let us know how it does in the dirt.

Sven,do all the mods work together in unison ?? or could say just the GB and Threshold, must admit i do have all the instructions that you so kindly provided, currently have the 950 coil and a 5.3 being shipped over from the US,but also have the offer of a 15'' coil for the IDX Pro for deep pasture use,and was wondering if the IDX would run the larger coil without the GB modification at the moment.

I seen that big mono coil the 15" one "I want" wont fit though on MX5

only a guess Mega but might need some sort of GB for a big mono coil like that to get the full benefit I take it this the one you mean? http://www.whiteselectronics.com/mxt-max-15-search-coil-15-khz

guess it might work on the MX5 still working this Whites stuff out what coils work on what detectors its a bit confusing !!

sure looks like a fun coil at worst its gunna build some muscles

AJ

AJ,thats the size of coil that i am looking at but in the link that you have to the Whites website that coil is for the MXT and it will work on the DFX but only in 15Khz,this is the coil that will work with the IDX Pro and lower freq machines Blue Max 15'' coil for IDX Pro and also another bonus is that its much cheaper than the MXT coil.

cheaper and lighter Mega bargain !! you going to get one? recon it would be deep.

IDX pro seems like a nice machine don't see many around.

I bought a MX5 and getting a bit confused about after market coils , all the whites coils that work on mxt M6 etc.. work on the MX5 , but a lot of the after market ones that work on the same machines don't say they work on the MX5 just wondering if they forgot about listing the MX5 as working or they just don't work?

any help here would be very much appreciated

You can just do the Threshold and GB mod, bringing the controls from the circuit board trimpots to external control pot.
Some one else would have to answer your question on theta 15" 3 pound cannonball of a coil.

Noticed the Cuff pads were still a little ratty. All else looks awsome. In case you do not know, the best way I have found to take off the old foam pads is to heat the entire arm cuff over the electric burner of the kitchen range. Heat the metal part very hot, So hot you can touch it, but not hold on to it. While it is still really hot, peal up a corner of the pad and gently peal it right off. If it gets hard to peal, heat the cuff some more. Solvent, gas, or paint thinner will clean up any left over stickey.

Thats A very sweet mod. Well done Sven. looks great:thumbup:

Thanks, works well enough to keep!!!!
Just picked up a Precision Scan 800 coil for it.

Sven,it will be interesting too see how you get on with the Precision Scan 800 coil on the IDX Pro,had mine out again over the weekend, its a really enjoyable detector to use,a slow swing speed is essential with this machine, must admit i have never been a fan of 'S' shaped shafts but this one works well.

Im surprised at how the machine came out looking, If i hadnt of seen the original picture i would never suspect that was what it looked like before it was refurbished.

I am now the proud owner of this machine.
It is a really great machine, and is amazing
with the blue max 600 coil in parks. Sven did
a great job fixing this machine. I will never sell
it, and my son and I always fight over who will
get to use it. The loser has to swing my old blue
box 5900 Di/Pro Plus - awesome machine but heavy
as an anchor LOL.
