Beaches around San Diego...

How mineralized are they?? We are going to be staying there for a few days in October and I thought I'd try and get out and detect a little. Any tips on some good spots and tips on problems to avoid would be appreciated. Good luck and HH. Bob.

The beaches here are very mineralized. I use a minelab gt with a 12x15 sef coil and I have to turn the sensitivity way down. La Jolla shores is a good bet, although it gets detected a lot, I still have found two gold rings in one day there. Mission beach is less mineralized and gets a lot of tourists near the roller coaster. The bay beaches are good also but the wet "sand" is more like black mud and a good scoop is needed. A propointer is a big help because of all the melted aluminum and "hard to see" junk targets. The photos are from my hunt yesterday in the Coronado beach area. For me the hard part is deciding which beach to hit. Good luck, hope this helps.

Only gonna get to detect for a few hours over a couple of days so LUCK will play a big part in how I do. Thanks for the info and HH!!! Bob.
