Beach ? XT70 tracking help

I am a bit confused here, I have had my XT70 for about a week.. I read in the manual that it says two things concerning tracking in the beach mode....one it says to turn the tracking on, when a target appears, turn off tracking, pinpoint it.... but when I do that I lose my target or a I find it, and its a full circle ( pinpointed ) but each target that I do pinpoint is at least 2 ft long and 2 ft wide???what the heck.....its says in the maual it is recommened to use it that way...turn on tracking, pinpoint, dig it up and turn tracking on...then on the same page it says when tracking is on, you can pinpoint, but the tracking icon will disappear...once out of the pinpointing the track icon appears... now what the heck am I doing wrong here......I am seriously confused here.

I tried this in 2 modes, coin treasure 1 then went to all metal mode to see if I could find things....same thing happened...what am I doing wrong here. oh I used the stock coil as well.

A. Pinpointing on wet salt sand using the Pinpoint function will not work well, as with any single frequency VLF. Look in the FAQFAQ under the X70 then Saltwater sub-section for several posts that will be enlightening.

B. Ground Tracking in Saltwater/Beach mode is very fast.....because it needs to be. Therefore once you locate a target, especially a weak one, turn it off or the target will disappear as it is "tracked out". Use the methods in the FAQFAQ to pinpoint or simply "X" the target. Usually on a beach you have a shovel or scoop and can dig large holes quickly. After the target is recovered turn Tracking back on and meander off.
