Beach..wet sand

How does the mxt do on the beach...wet sand areas.......thanks for info I'm considering this detector......Dan

On the West Coast some of our beaches have black sand as well as salt water to contend with. I use a BigFoot on my MXT. This combination works very well in dry sand. On beaches with no black sand I can run the gain at +2 or more. As the amount of black sand goes up, the gain has to be slowly moved down. The lowest I can recall having to go on dry sand was 7 but that was an extreme case with LOTS of black sand.

When I reach the wet sand, I restart the machine with the Track switch in Salt, do a Ground Balance and flip the switch to Lock. That works far better than leaving the machine on, switching to Salt, Ground Balancing and Locking. The MXT runs much smoother and at a higher gain when I use the restart method. I just stumbled on to this one day when I shut the MXT off out of frustration because of incessant falsing. When I settled down and turned the machine back on, It simply worked a whole lot better. I have been using this setup method since I discovered it. I have no idea why it works better but it does.

An MXT does not work as well on a wet salt beach as a DFX. However, I have found coins in wet salt sand at over 6 inches with a BigFoot. The VDIs are not accurate in the wet salt. The beach is pretty much a dig all positive signals on down to slightly negative signals anyway.

I never had any problems with it on the sand beaches of Mexico. I've also hunted sandy beaches at a campsites here in Illinois with ease. I could get 12" easy and wasn't noisy at all. HH, Nancy

Thanks.....to all... sounds like a good detector......hh.........Dan

Thanks for that info Bob. I have had quite a bit of trouble trying to use my MXT on the wet stuff here on Central California beaches because of the black sand. I will try your method my next tome out at the beaches.
