Beach & Water Hunting in Hawaii (Oahu)

Oahu_Tom

New member
Hello all. I'm new to this hobby and have purchased a White's Surf PI.. Have been out several times in the past few weeks but only finding a few coins on the beaches so far... Nothing really worthwhile. Have been hunting the east end of Waikiki beach and also tried Kailua Beach Park. Have hunted the dry sand & wet sand but not the water.. When I tried the water with a beach scoop with a 3 foot handle, the hole filled as fast as I could scoop it out! I never did recover the target.

Any tips - places on Oahu to hunt, water & beach hunting tips, methods, etc. would be greatly appreciated by a new enthusiast!!!

I worked the beaches in Oahu all during the eighties. The only dry/wet sand hunting I did was going from the beach towel to get into the water. Stop wasting you time and get into the water. Next loose the scoop. Except when the water is too stirred up would I use a scoop and that was never. I always used a mask and snorkel in as little as six inches of water. Wear a tee shirt and use sun block. You will really enjoy it and with practice you can work for many hours. A bad day at the beach detecting I would find four gold rings. The more you use the machine the better you will get. By using the mask and snorkel I found that I could hear signals better and its the faint ones that count. Sorry to go on but I did great there and wish I could return, HH Mike.

Tom how much are the beaches in HA hunted?? Do you usually see other THers when you're out detecting? You would think that with all the rich people who visit most Hawaiian beaches would be picked clean. Just wondering. HH!!!!
