Here is a finds report and there are a couple of questions at the end......
So 3rd time out since I got my new Sovereign GT - and yet another impressive performance. The beaches in my area are fairly prolific in terms of people but that also means there are more people detecting, the coin finds are certainly not what they used to be 10 years ago, largely due to the economy I think and also we could do with a week (make it a year please) of blazing hot sunshine.......... Can't complain though as I just can't stop finding rings at the moment....
A typical night hunt for me - dry sand and then in the early hours of the morning switch to wet sand hunting as the tide goes out. Had a promising start in the dry stuff with a few coins but once again the area had certainly been detected heavily over the weekend, I have years of knowledge of this beach so can tell pretty quickly. However its not a disaster as the days weather had been ok (not good but ok!) so the days drops were there and what everyone else had missed. Have watched other people detecting this beach area, I am always amazed at how fast they go - never seen anything like it in my entire life, the amount of stuff they miss is incredible.
Settings were DISC - 0, Notch - 0, Sens - just before 12 - Iron Mask 'ON' and I put my 'luck' setting on high...
And talking about what other people miss.......... dry sand find about 7 inches down........another gold ring.......
Onto the wet sand as the tide starts to go out - sand shifts mean there is more of a slope than usual, not such a good sign. A toe ring was found almost instantly, thought it was gold at first - need to explain that my head torch is a red low light so that anything silvery under the red light in the darkness is going to look gold. Switch my light over to white light and can see its silvery, but not silver... Junk. Now my low tide hunting went completely down hill, I could hear barking...... headphones on I couldn't tell how far away. Ignored it for a while but the barking was incessant... and getting louder... the threshold hum was becoming overwhelmed by the noise, turned around and a dog is about 15 feet away. This was about 3am - nice looking dog, no owner. He followed me and barked away - a lost dog.... not an angry dog I was not concerned about that but the noise he made was incredible - when he eventually sauntered off right at the lowest tide time there was another noise..... big boat coming in...... oh hell... Big boats should not come by at low tide so obviously this one has a problem and the waves it caused meant that I lost about 6ft of prime hunting ground. Still as I did high tide mark another ring popped up - not silver though but a nicely crafted ring nevertheless. Bumped into the dog again later - still barking............he seemed scared no chance of me getting a lead on him even after giving him a chocolate bar. Coming away from the beach a car pulls up, driver asks have I seen his dog......... told him exactly where he will be and that was my good deed done..
Another good night - and I was hearing the tone differences much better this time.
So my finds for the night were.....
