beach settings

I am going to Ocean City MD for a day to see what the sea set free due to the storm. just bought a e-trac can I get some feedback on the quick settings to use. I know its pretty beginner but sorry I just dont know how to do it. Bought a $150 scoop for a one day hunt HMMMMMM

One heavy 14k ring will pay for the scoop, everythign else is a bonus. I wanted to go also, but didnt know if tyhey are letting people in yet. May try to go in a day or 2. My though on setting is straight coin settings and mod later when you get the hang of things. Better yet, go buy a second machine and make it a Excalibur II and get in the water, maybe not though, that will lessen the pressure on me. Have funa nd be safe with the rips. HH Mike

I used the provided beach program in the E-Trac, until I felt comfortable about programing the E-Trac. After learning to program the E-Trac, I now use the beach program shown in Andy Sabisch's book. Which I think, gets me deeper into the sand.

Set your machine on factory beach settings noise cancel and you are all set. That program sets your ground settings, deep on and it works in wet sand dry sand even works in water but one rogue wave can ruin your machine. If you can get on the beach a couple of hours before low tide and follow it out and you should do very well. Since you don't have a lot of experience on your E-Trac you may want to dig every target. Good luck and be carefull. HH :minelab:

Late post but I might add the following; if you get in a spot where you are findng several good targets all in a similar area then try opening up the discrimination, or switch to an open quick mask screen while you go over the area a second time. I have found some interesting and good finds in thot spots with concentrations of targets that were discriminated out because they are not the best metal compositions.

good luck

Like what kind of finds?
What do you mean by "best metal compositions", since that usually means not so good?

As many of you have discovered, teh factory settings were developed using targets in the air and in many cases using them will cause you to miss deeper targets which are what we are all looking for. The factory coin and beach programs are both examples of where additional white space is needed to avoid missing keepers.

The program posted on Findmall (http://www.findmall.com/read.php?63,894336,894336#msg-894336) or in the book will both help you find more than the factory program will.

If you have any questions on getting it loaded or adjusting your detector, feel free to PM me

I use my Et On the beach here in San Diego every week. I loaded Andy's program and hunt in QMask. I do very well I think. 5 gold rings this year. Dig every repeatable target. The only "magic" number is 12 on the FE line. Don't pass it by, but dig every thing else that comes close and a lot that does not. Recent threads on 01-** point this out. Tone is more important than numbers for most coins. Today I had a copper penny read 12/47 a sure bet quarter signal, but it sounded like a penny and it was. Just to balance it out I also dug a quarter at 12/39, but again it sounded like what it was. Salt and corrosion can cause the numbers to jump around all over. HH Terry

Please correct me if I am wrong (and I haven't used my E-Trac at the beach yet) but why wouldn't you just use 2 tone FE at the beach and dig every high tone?
Set up in 2 tone FE you are running the machine at it's most fast speed while hearing the iron as a low tone versus having it null out...

When using my Excalibur at the beach, you're nulling the iron and digging everything else except for the occasional bottle top which has a very distinctive sound that sort of blurps and breaks up.

I need to give the E-Trac a try this way (2 tone FE) but I'm so used to being in the heavy surf up to my knees - and with the E-Trac you can only do the shallowest of water...
