Beach search mode

Got to use my X-Terra-70, one the beach, for the first time. I flowed directions on placing the unit it beach search mode. Pressing and holding the ground balance button the unit would not change to the beach mode. The manual says it souled charge in 3 seconds. I then pushed tracking button then ground balance and held it for about five second before it switched to beach made. Also would not change back to normal hunting mode unless I turned tracking off and holding ground balance button for five seconds. Just before posting this, I tried changing to beach mode three time before it finally worked. Took two tries be for I could get it to return to normal. Any Ideas

I made a couple of notes in my manual. Page 40 should say (1) Press Ground Balance. "and release.
(2) "Then" Press and hold Ground Balance
for 3 seconds.
Reverse procedure to deactivate.
