Beach Question?????

Active member
Hi all, For something to wash up on the water Line, dose it Haft to be lost within the Breakers????? Thanks, Mickfin,

My understanding is that things move around with the moving sands...i.e. something lost on the beach can be dragged into the water by a very high tide, and things lost in the surf can be tossed up onto the beach by rough surf. Also, I understand that things lost in one place can be moved by tides and currents which move the medium in which the thing has been lost. i.e. If something is lost on or near one part of a beach, it can turn up on another part. It also has a lot to do with density and surface. A gold ring may not move at all except straight down because there in no surface and unless there is hard pan the water motion will cause it to sink to its equal density. Other items like coins with a surface will move with heavy current movement, hard pan bottom, tides and wave action. CUTS do catch some of these targets and holds them at the high or low tide lines also.

Thanks 4R the reply, But can things wash up on the Beach from the Ocean floor??? Mic

Hi Mic.I had two high tides then a real low and coins were laying exposed on the beach between low water line and high.Read or re read
"how to search sand and surf"by Caarles Garrett. It came with my Sea Hunter 2.Didn'''t you have 1 of those? How is the excale?good luck
good read,Wayne

Some good reading on movement of treasure, maynot be for your area because every beach is different

I'd say yes. The 1715 treasure fleet in Florida is one example where the wrecks coins washed up onto the beach in several spots along the coast. At least that's how I read it. Bob.

Was detecting a beach in the Bahamas where the waves were coming in at an angle and causing a lot of scolloping and found a hot spot where coins had collected over a period of time and were being uncovered by the circular motion of the waves. I stayed in that area and found in about 5 hours, more than 100 quarters along with smaller denominations. While there I eye balled three gold finds in the sand and saw a ring rolling down the slope toward deeper water which I was able to scoop up as it was trying to make it's escape. Have also seen coins upended by the waves and rolling down the beach for deep water. I posted the gold finds last year, but here is a pic of the rolling ring, 14k rubies and diamonds . Lloyd

the answer is yes it can but it would have to be blowing a gale or worse to throw it up on the beach with a wave along with the sand/rocks/shells ect...

Thanks 4R all the replys, Mickfin
