Beach Monkey Bonanza!

We had a pretty decent storm roll in all night...then the wind came out of the east strong and knocked down the waves on Lake Michigan...perfectly flat and overcast and cool! Rare day here indeed!

I've had my eye on this one particular cut, it keeps growing, so I wadered up and crawled down in there with the AtPro this morning...started sniping clad off the black sand slope, the signals are not anywhere crisp or reliable, and dont dare go by the TIDS in this mess, just scoop off a few swipes and the signals clear up the deeper you go somewhat...anyway, I saw a dime ahead of me right on top about 10' away, thought, "Cool, theres a clean freshie that I wont have to tumble"...turned out to be a 63 silver Rosie! Horray!

Every so often the Big Lake spits up an oldie...So that lit a fire, and I worked way too much beach than intended...wore myself out hunting gold today, bet I hiked and waded 5 miles or more...I should go back out, checking the wind forecast now to make sure I dont let this window close on me and sand back in...hope y'all are getting out and into it somewhere in the World of Beach and Water hunting...

I found another massive cut where it was deep over my head kind of thing...super deep blowout right close to shore!....really great location for gold too, I've found it here before...and I had the wetsuit in the car, but I chickened out on account of I'm old and that Big Lake is just so cold right now...my leaky waders advised against it....the Big Lake dont lay down often or blow out this big, so it keeps a lot of treasure for itself.

Decent cut there, congratz on the finds!

That's a good amount of coins and goodies! Congrads on the Silver!!

Nice find on that silver Rosie. I see a lot of black sand in your photos and some very crusty coins. Have you tried a PI on that beach? There may be gold items below the coins. Those lead sinkers often indicate that you're at the right depth. I always enjoy reading your posts.

SYD,
I dont know if a PI would work here...theres a lot of bobbypins and iron all over the place...The AtPro has that iron audio feature which comes in handy switching it on and off...you are right about this black sand, none of the signals in it are crisp or identifiable...so a guy has to scoop off a few layers and then the deeper ones start to clean up a bit...I've gotten some deep finds off the black sand so I think I'm doing about as good as I can with it...I dont know if its natural black sand or from all the foundries that operated here in the days gone by, but it is black sand alright....it layers up too which makes hunting it a real problem, but like i said, once a guy gets to know it a little, you can hunt it somewhat effectively.....I'm heading out right now to give it another go..

That has to be difficult terrain to detect in. That black sand/magnetite would drive a lot of detectors crazy and probably a P.I. wouldn't work too well there? Keep swinging that ATPro Mud!!!!
