Beach Hunting - Wet/Dry Sand

digaholic

New member
I am new to MD and was wondering what is the best place to hunt for jewelry/coins on the beach. I have been hunting the wet sand area (approx. midway between the high tide line and the low tide line).Has anyone had better luck hunting dry sand than wet sand? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

watch for highly populated areas on the beach for the dry sand and then just walk and take your time...as to the wet sand its about the same but at a slower pace imho...
good luck

First off what kind of machine do you have? Is it a water machine? Not all machines will work well in the wet sand since they are salt sensitive. Where are you hunting?.......lakes or ocean? Do not count on finding jewelery as it has been as scarce as hen's teeth lately due to the high price of gold. Many people have sold off their gold for cash while others are far more cautious about where they wear it. Coin, there is always plenty of those everywhere. But you need to practice.

I have a Minelab Excalibur II and a Whites Spectra V3. I hunt at the ocean mainly with the Excalibur.

You've got the best! Use your Excal in the wet sand and water at low tide. Your whites will work very well in the dry sand so you can ID out the bottle caps and bobby pins. With the Excal, dig everything because the coins will sound differently from one another depending on how long they have been there. Do not use your pinpoint mode as you will basically turn it into a PI and pick up all metals.

with the excalibur you should do very well...if your not sure what it is..dig it up...
hope this helps..

HI digaholic; Welcome aboard. With those detectors your hunting for Rhino.!!!! Looking forward to the pics. PEACE:RONB

I concentrate on the dry sand this time of year, when the water is warmer then I go to the wet sand. At this time more people are sunbathing, very few go in the water.

Hi Folks; Did someone say something about a strange object called SUN???? I think I heard about it once but I'm not sure.Still taking the dry spell advice post approach.!!!!! :sadwalk: Anyway; Later. PEACE:RONB

Thanks for all the great tips. As soon as the going gets good, I'll start posting pictures.
