Beach huntin with the Vaqero

Wishful-thinker

New member
My daughter loves the beach so today we took her to play in the sand....I also took the V.
Well it was bittersweet. I often see people posting wanting to know how the V works at the beach, well
as long as you stay in DISC.mode you can search the whole beach...,but you can only GB in the
dry sand i.e. the towel line. I did find some pennies and assorted PTs and bits of wire etc.
The only problem I really had was I set my SENS to 10 so that I wouldnt miss any gold, but
kept getting signals that were to deep to dig with my scoop.NO I wont be getting rid of my V.
I just think I may get a beach machine.

Don't know what beach you hunt, but I hunt the Texas beaches. If you run your sens high in the wet stuff your going to have falsing, I check the ground bal often at the beach not just when I go from dry to wet sand. Then set the sens till the machine runs stable, sometimes this will be at # 3 or so, most times 5-7.You might lose some depth but you should still get 4-6". I even run my coil submerged at times and it runs stable. You will on occassion hit pockets of highly mineralized stuff that you can't adjust for, I just skip past it and keep hunting, maybe recheck the GB.

Were these salt or fresh water beaches? Assume the Texas beaches are fresh water, and so is the water the coil was submerged in Cordially Nad

WOW..A "V" working in salt water..I knew they were crazy", git up and go", machines. My admiration for the staff at Tesoro, just went up a couple of notches,,.And, you just got me off in a new direction, and a new post, to find what I hope to find. Thanks cordially Nad.

Nad, I don't think we have much mineralization at the beaches here, except as I mentioned there are what seems to be a few pockets of something once in awhile that makes the V run erratic. Its only small ares and I just work past it. My bud with a MXT has trouble in those same areas. Even my ace 250 will run smooth in damp sand here if I turn the sens down, it will not run smooth in the wet stuff though.

Mississippi beaches ,salt water and yes I ran SENS at 10 w/no falsing in DISC the only trouble I had was
when trying to GB in wet sand it wouldn't.....pitch kept going higher when pumping the coil.
Not enough GB to compensate...And before you ask yes I checked in DISC A/M for a clean spot.
I'm sure I could of turned the SENS down, put it in A/M and turned the THRES down ,but was scared
that mabe I would loose too much depth.......But I will try it now, thanks, I'm still learning! :wiggle:

OK now I am getting excited about taking the modified Cibola back to the beach ... and a big thanks to Sven for posting his documentation on the mod and the words of encouragement.
