Hello everyone I want start hunting some beachs can anyone tell me what are the best setting are for hunting silver and gold. I use the E-Trac what are the numbers gold is coming up at. I really appreciate the help.

Thanks Steve

Steve, Get Andys book. There is a whole section on beach hunting with the ET. Settings and all. I use a gold and silver pattern "i knock out pennies". Gold range is from foil "12-01 to 12-37ish. Silver is 12-46 and up most of the time. Deep on fast off, Trash low, Ground 21 and up "neutral" 20 and below "difficult" Sens auto +3

Just put it into ferrous 2-tone, with the very bottom of FE line disced out, and dig everything that sounds off.

Andy's book will help you out a lot. I use the pattern in Andy's book that is listed as Joe Demarco's. I have no problem finding Gold, Silver and small pieces of Jewelry. I would NOT discriminate pennies, there are some small Gold rings or ear rings with diamonds you could miss. A buddy of mine found a nice small gold ring with his SE PRO, and a buddy of his uses an E-Trac with pennies discriminated, the E-Trac would not make a peep until he accepted pennies. A long hunt with few targets welcomes a penny dig once in awhile.

Joe DeMarcos pattern---I agree with not eliminating pennies----zincs are annoying but you will never know what you could be missing--my e-trac 12-37 = ZINC

My case for nocking out pennies. Imagine a big city beach"NYC" that is small but get thousands of people every day. So small that you can see both ends. Now imagine the billions of targets on said beach. You can't swing the coil without hearing several targets. On big beaches i too use Demarcos pattern.

Anything you knock out ie discriminate will cause a null if you pass over it, this slows down the machine as it has to recuperate, i find its better/faster to run wide open and disc with your ears, especially in heavy iron areas, this gives a great advantage over the likes of the sovereign/excalibur although you can get a good ear bashing at times you also get real close to iron to pick out anything that could be otherwise masked by the null

Hello everyone! I'm new here and to this forum, I just ordered a Explorer SE Pro. I can't wait to learn this machine and start exploring all my local beaches. I've never use a MD, but have been waiting and saving for a long time. I'm great with computers so I think I'll be able to learn the control box interface, but I think I'll start with just the default settings for a while. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You are correct, you will not have any trouble learning the machine or making and changing settings. Get Andy's book on the E-Trac and Explorers, there is a ton of good information that is more than helpful. I have a buddy that has paid for his SE PRO several times over just from beach detecting and he has several machines including an Excalibur but the SE PRO is his choice for the beach.

Things I would recommend:

1. Andy Sabisch's book very informative
2. Long handle beach scoop Must Have
3. Comfortable shoes Dive boots, Crocs, your preference
4. Tide Chart for your area, Hunt 2 hours before low tide and follow the tide out

Be careful, this machine is not waterproof as you know and if not careful it will be ruined quick. When you hunt the beach and water edge clean you machine well every time free of the salt water spray. Your upper an lower shaft can become seized from the salt water if not promptly cleaned.

Although jewelry can be found anywhere on the beach, in my experiences my best finds have always came from the wet sand to the low tide and edge of the water. I purchased an Excalibur II last year so I could hunt the water edge without fear of zapping my E-Trac.

You will find some good stuff with this machine, the Minelabs are great on the beach. Good Luck and Happy Hunting

...can come up in a very large range. You can't eliminate them without sacrificing gold targets. Heck, I have dug a lot of those 3/4 and 1/2 zincs that sounded GOOD.

Kered ,
I use to hunt the same way .....I'm gonna change the way I hunt now with the E Trac ....If you check page 81 in Andy's Explorer and E Trac Handbook , you will see that he has underlined " I guarantee if you always hunt in All Metal , you are missing some targets " ...... Guys are reporting hunting with discrimination and hearing some high tones , and when checking them in all metal , the Iron tones overpower the high tones , and you don't even hear the high tone ....Later when the target it dug , it turns out to be a larger piece of iron that dictates what the E Trac hears when in All Metal mode, but in the same hole , a coin is found !!....... Check it out .....If there is no iron nearby, you are OK , but who's to say that there will not be any iron nearby ? ......I'm not telling you how to hunt , just something to consider ...Jim

Synthnut is right. The E-Trac is not your standard detector. You HAVE to have some level of iron discrimination, unless you are looking for iron. All metal = respond as the biggest signal there. Disc = respond as the highest accepted signal there.

I have new found faith that there are some out there who... understand what the ET does. There are many unknown/understood things about the ET that separates it from the rest.
