Beach Hunter ID question

I'm new to the hobby. Been at it just 4 months but I'm looking for ring number 19. I noticed that after ground balancing in the "all metal mode" the botton slips back into "disc" by itself. Does this mean that the machine wasn't designed to operate in "all metal mode" which I prefer in the surf. I solved the problem using a rubber band wrapped around the select botton that keeps in that mode.
By the way, my 3 month old machine was sent in for repair...its electronics are way out of whack. I doubt there is a connection using it in all metal but I might be wrong.
Thank you for taking time to read this.

I just bought a used unit and haven't really used it yet in the water but just with playing with it in the yard, I noticed that the headphone coiled wire kept messing with that switch and wondered why in the world whites would have put the head phone plug on the front of the box instead of the back. It seems a very poor design to me.

Call them @541-367-6121 and they will send you a replacement boot.

What is the switch boot? I have a DFX, I love it, but recently was unable to balance it. When I would try to ground balance it would just scream and not stop. The repair man put a new board in it, but when I tried it still not good. Any suggestions. I love the DFX the best and I have an Excal 1000, which is at the shop right now, to just make sure it is operating right, under warranty. If it was working right, I find it much more difficult to operate and unerstand.
Also, does anyone have the schematics for the DFX?

When you mentioned the "scream" problem while attempting to ground balance you hit the exact problem I'm having. I sent my Beach Hunter ID off to be repaired and they sent it back. Took it to the beach and it hit a dime in less than a minute. Then it reverted to the "scream". Tried everything including changing the battery pack to silence the scream. This time I sent it to White's Oregon factory for repair. The machine is less than 4 months old. Breaks my heart because it is one outstanding machine. I guess I got the rare lemon.
