Would anyone besides myself like to see a forum for the Bh.I.d/300? What a great machine it has proven it'sself to me for a few years now as a do it all unit in both parks, fields, fresh water and salt water.

Don't know if enough people use 'em to do that. I like mine too...and read all posts about 'em.

...yep, dumped my Excal for the BHID300.

Do we really want the secret out.....:ninja:

Tony.

I can say That In all my years of detecting -22. I have never had a unit pick up a christmas tree lightbulb in the sand before until I did it with the BH300. a small clear mini light strand bulb. I was impressed. ,so was my dealer in gettysburg pa.Don Hinks.

great depth, target seperation and fast to ground balance . Can be run like a pulse unit and still i.d targets . One sweet, sweet, unit. Only thing I'd ever like to see this unit have is the ability to run different coils without having to send it back and have the coil hardwired.

:detecting:

I also own a BH and it is simple to use. I think it gets covered quite well in the beach forum. I always got good info there. JMHO

My BHID has the 950 coil, so I'd probably get my feelings hurt if you left me out... :ranting:

Seriously though, there aren't any trick settings or "programs" or coils to choose from under different conditions.
The conditions we work in apply to all water detectors.

Nothing wrong with the 950 coil. Spend a $140 dolalrs at Whites and have them swap it over to the 12''. However I wouldnt bother Its a killer unit either way that does it all.

What coils are available for the BH anyway? I prefer a smaller coil; about an 8" coil for hunting lakes as it's easier to pin point and more forgiving to scoop that smaller foot print for a green horn like myself. Anyone here of different coil options or someone to wire in an aftermarket coil for this unit?

Well, if you're feeling adventurous, I'd say you could wire in any coil rated for the DFX. They are all going to be waterproof and work with dual frequencies.
The normal method is to either buy a unit with the 950 coil on it and keep it that way, or send it in to upgrade to the 300mm coil. I think the cost is $145.00 USD for the upgrade.
Or, of course, simply buy a BHID 300 in the first place.
I'm thinking of getting either a BHID 300 or Surf PI to use in the water and letting my wife operate the BHID 950 in the sand.

Ok, so if I know what I am doing or can get someone who does, then I can wire in any of the DFX coils?? That's pretty nifty to know. I suppose the BH is essentially like a waterproof DFX then? All good information to know if this is the case with the coils.

Yes, the BHID works on the same frequencies as the DFX and except for the water proof connection at the box can use any of the coils designed for the DFX, such as the D2, or the Eclipse coils.
It really wouldn't be difficult to swap in another coil. The only issue is IF the bulkhead connector leaked, there'd be no warranty. But since the detector is only rated to 25 feet anyway, you'd never reach 2 atmospheres of pressure, so leakage would not be as likely to occur as, say, in a Surf PI rated for 100 feet.

That or just leave the bulk head alone at the connector. Cut the cable and wire in some of the waterproof connectors that SunRay sells.

There's more than one way to skin a cat!
