Beach Hunter 300

Has anyone tried a Beach Hunter 300? I see the early ones had some issues with floating coils and leaks. I would be doing strictly fresh water. Does anybody have a newer one, do you like it, and what kind of depth are you getting?

I've got one...some people complain 'bout the coil, but it doesn't bother me...being 12" coil it allows for good coverage...hunts deep enough for me...used to hunt with pi. I like mine, but like any machine - depends on personal preferance. good luck with whatever you decide

I use my BHID 300 in fresh water the 12 inch coil isnt a problem when you add the anderson coil weight and the coil to shaft stabilizer, depth is a hard one to answer as you cant see how deep you dig unless you go by scoops till you hit the target, I have had to scoop 3 times to hit the target before,I like mine and have found plent of good finds to pay for it.

Padgett79, from what I have read the new ones have a coil with neutral bouyancy so they don't float up or need to be weighted. How old is your BHID 300?

One other question, will the 12 inch coil have poor target seperation? How does it deal with a coin near iron?

mine is the newer almost zero bouancy but the box is what makes it want to float so I added the weight to the coil to help hold it under water better the coil stabilizer is to make sure the coil is setting level as they will tend to work up when the washers wear-this way I know it is level.as for target seperation with the 3 tones a coin will usually hit better than iron, it takes a little time to get used to,all I know is it all works great for me sometimes I just scoop to see what it actually is out of curiosity, as iron signals have given up a few knives in the water.sunglasses, watches and toy cars.

i recently got a barely used bhid, and am loving it. I'm thinking that the gasket and battery holder cover probably should be replaced every 2 or 3 years as a maintenance preventive, no?

My coil floats, so I took a a small bean bag with shot inside (from a dive belt),and a velcro strap, I just strapped the bean bag to the shaft above the tightening knob and it is perfectly weighted in the water. The velcro removes in an instant if i want to do dry sand. Not ideal, but covenient enough.

Ground balance in All Metal mode.

I found it has amazing depth in all metal. The ID lights work in All Metal mode. However, AMM reaches far deeper than the discrimination feature can handle, so deep signals are not identified.

Within the depths that Identification works, identification accuracy seems best at mid depth. If a signal is very strong, I raise the coil a bit to get more info on the id.
