Beach Hunter 300

Hey everyone. Anyone have the beach hunter 300 or similar machine? I have had a terrible time trying to balance it at Lake Eire Beaches in New York. Basically, it goes off all over the place, and just in case, I dig all signals, and there is nothing there. I did pull a few nice gold rings with it on Cape Cod Mass at the end of the summer, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the machine. I have read the balance directions several times, and even talked to Mike and Fred out on Long Island, and these guys swear by this machine, and have 100 0f rings to back this up. Any suggestions? I just got my new BH 300 and am having the same problems with it. I have found some good stuff (2 gold rings) along the Outer banks of NC. But, in a lake here in Alabama, I just about went nuts trying to stabilize it. Called White's and learned that temperature changes can make a difference in the loop "null", this being compensated for by internal electronics, which might cause slight changes in threshold levels. Maybe the fluctuating threshold sound was caused by power lines along the shore but it didn't bother my buddy and his Excalibur. And, when I set my threshold to a low level, the sound is very intermittant-sounds like static. Anyway, I have used White's detectors for years and I think my BH 300 is going to be a winner. But I am getting frustrated with its erratic mannerisms!
I'd love to hear from some more seasoned users of this machine for their experiences, particularily with respect to balancing and stability issues and how to keep the threshold sound constant after pinpointing in the all-metal mode.

did you try and lower the sensitivity.that is usually the problem?

Does it do this in both all metal and discrim modes after ground balancing with those erratic sounds ? You may have to lower the sensitivity and adjust the threshold a bit.

I have found that lots of times by BHID 300 on the NJ beach will start to drift in threshold sound and get louder. All I do is hit the re-set button and everything is back to normal.

I would try to GB normally, and then hit the re-set button and go back to all metal and try to GB again. Try GBing on pre-set sensitivity first.

Good luck...I do like my BHID 300 A LOT !

Thanks for the tip.Glad to know that my experience is not unique and there is a way to handle threshold drift. I'm taking my BHID 300 to the Gulf beaches this week for a couple of days. Plan on wringin' her out real good. Stay tuned for the results!
