Beach Hunt

My Brother and I went to west Hawk beach today at 5:30 am. The Good news is that there was no one else there, so we had the beach all to our selves. Anyway we started finding pennies and the occaisonal quarter then I found a ring!!!! it sure looks gold. when I pulled it out of the water and saw it in my scoop my heart skipped a beat. So I looked for a ingraving on the ring and it had a 999 or 666 on the inside and two other letters following which I cant read. could it be pure Gold? I'm sorry I cant post a pic because i'm at my cabin right now without a camera. So any help would be greatly appreciated. And have a great summer!

Could be, I've seen stranger things. My advise would be to take it to a jeweler you trust and just ask them to look at it and tell you some details like that. Most will offer to help you out, but if you ask for an appraisal, then it will cost you. Let us know what you find out and by all means, learn to take pics for us!

usually 999 means 24K gold, but there is definitely plenty of fake stuff
out there marked to sell for more than it's worth.

Most jewelry is not made at 24K gold because it's simply too soft to hold up to alot of wear without being alloyed with something else.

That said, as GH mentioned - take it to a jeweler (or 2 or 3) and have it tested. Don't tell them you found it but rather that it belongs to your mother or sister or something and you want it checked for them.

Now - on the off chance that it's 666 and not 999, throw it back - you don't want SATAN to come looking for it :)

999 is pure gold, just like Gulf Hunter stated.
666 gold would be 16K. I can't say that I've heard of 16K, but who knows?
