Beach Hunt: Sandbridge VA

Hi,
Just hunted for about 1 3/4 hours. I am trying to pay my dues. Had the headphones today and was working in Pro Mode, 35 disc, and almost full sensitivity....I had to drop it down one bar occasionally because of extra noise. I ground balanced at 77 way up from the water, and 13 where the surf met the sand.

No good finds yet. 2 quarters...does it count if I saw the 2nd one before I swept it. A dime and a penny. I tried to dig most repeatable signals just to get the hang of the iron audio and tone roll. I did find about 4 bottle caps to practice on. My self doubt is that I tend to hear scratchy signals even on good targets so I am hesitant not to dig.

My biggest frustration today came at the waters edge. On three separate occasions I got a faint repeatable signal that didn't register anything on the depth or target ID. My thought was, hey, this is a deep target that only pro mode will find. I dug and dug, but in the end, I got no signal from my piles of sand and when the hole was huge, I got no more signal in the hole. This happened 3 times in the course of 10 minutes so I headed back up to the dry sand. Not sure what happened. I swept the targets about 10 times each and was sure I had a good signal. I think it would benefit me to head out with a seasoned pro and listen to some of the deep targets they dig. Or wait for another great video from the forum.

Take it easy

Germanshep,
Go into Pro Mode , Zero , and Disc 35, and Iron Audio OFF ......When you hit what you think is a good target , hit the Iron Audio button ....If you hear a low grunting noise , there is a good chance that it is a bottle cap ....Turn your Iron Audio off and continue hunting .....Dig the target if you would like to check it ..... If you had checked that target that you dug and dug adn dug and found nothing , you would probably find that what you experienced was that you found a pocket of Black Sand and when you disturbed it , the tone went away ..... Another tip is that normally the AT Pro will lock onto coins pretty good ....If the numbers jump around a few numbers out of the way , it's generally not a good target ....If you hit a dime and it goes to 82 and then 81, and then back to 82 and stays there for a while , you can be pretty sure that this is a coin, but still check it with the Iron Audio button !!..... One things that will still fool you will be the number 53 that you think will be a Gold Ring , that will turn out to be a pull tab !!.......Hope this helps .... Jim

Believe it or not, thats not bad for this time of yr. and the time you put in. After you dig 500 targets you'll know that machine pretty good. On the Beach.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the black sand pocket tip. I did see a lot of black sand on the surface, so I bet that was it. I have been hunting the way you suggested, with iron audio off and then flip on to check a target. From the feedback I am getting, I just haven't dug enough holes. I guess my expectations of finding something cool in the short term are a bit high. When I do find something nice you'll probably hear my yelling from there!

Thanks

Back to digging
