Beach hunt brings Gold and Goverment property

I went beach hunting with the wife again today. Now I have to go back in time 2 months ago.....

We where hunting together at the beach when a distraught young lady came running up to us begging for help. It seems that an hour had gone by of her searching through the sand by hand, sifting with her fingers. She had lost her engagement ring and it was from her mother in-law. She had been wading around in a lagoon and the wind had picked up causing her to wrap up in a towel. They drove away to go and buy some campfire wood and get warm by the fire. It was then noticed the ring was missing.

My wife and I where eager to help, maybe a little too eager as the couple insisted that there would be a reward if we found it. I assured them that if we found it we would send it to them. I gave them my business card and they gave me their phone number. I put the number in my wallet and presumed to hunt to no avail. We searched for hour upon hour and over the next couple of months searched there half a dozen times. Always finding new targets but not the ring. The lagoon was full of water, but was receding each day.

Fast forward to today, the lagoon was dry from the lack of rain. My wife went over to the spot and then walked away from the area. I was heading over with the v3i when she stopped me and gave me the look of please let me hunt this area. Well, with her DFX in hand she got a repeating 8 vdi and figured it was foil. She walked away from it and then came back to it and dug it...... Out popped the ring.

I called the couple up and asked the husband if he could put the phone on speaker and asked if his wife was there. I told them that we had found the ring. We could hear her crying in the background as it had been quite a emotional thing for her to lose. They emailed me their address and we'll send it off asap. :twodetecting:

The v3i performed well today but glitched on me after I made the call to the couple. I went to turn it on and it refused to boot. I went back to the car with detector in hand and tried switching battery packs. Still nothing it would switch on and die with no color screen start up. I was upset and called Whites, I have them as a contact on my phone. But they are closed on Saturday. So I am standing at my car with a retired older couple in their car next to me and I mention that my wife just found a gold ring and told them the story. The elderly lady mentions that she could use some help finding her rings that was lost 2 years ago at their campsite. I told her I would love to help them but my detector is going to have to be sent off. They said thats to bad and I went back to put the detector away when it turns on in my hands. Yep it makes no sense, I am going to help them find their rings, God be willing of course. I would have never talked to them if the detector had not mysteriously decided to not cooperate. It has never done this before and then worked flawless the rest of the day. I found a Government issue map light and a pocket knife today amongst the usual array of change. Oh and the elderly couple was parked in the same parking location as the young couple where 2 months before hand. Oh the universe and all its mystery.:beers:

The silver heart was also found by my wife a couple of days ago at a school field, she is pretty proud of it. 2 months in with her own detector and she has a 2 silver and a gold ring.

Really nice story and a great thing you did! Always nice to bring people back together with their lost belongings.

I have a somewhat funny story to share. I had moved to a new location in Germany - a shared 3 family house. I just had gotten my (now sold) Nautilus IIB detector and was in the yard practicing. I got a blasting signal in the center of the yard and dug up a gold wedding ring at 3". The family there was pretty excited about it as was I. I thought this metal detecting thing was going to bring fortune to me at this rate (my only gold ring to date!). Anyway there was a name inscribed inside. My landlord knew the lady and she still lived in the small town, just up the street! I proudly walked with my neighbors to the house, somewhat expecting tears and a huge reward. Upon coming to the door the lady said emotionless "Yeah, that is my ring, wait here a second." She came back and gave the little girl I was with 5 Euro. I almost couldn't help but laugh thinking "Wow, no emotion and 5 Euro, you must have a bad marriage or the like! and of course welcome to Germany"
Anyway, a funny memory for me and the German people are actually really nice people.

I don't want to hijack your thread but the memory came back...

Keep it up!

Both great stories.
