I worked the beach today and had a little luck. It appears if you need tent stakes, buy a metal detector and head to the beach!! LOL
I found 2 quarters, 2 dimes. 1 nickel, 12 pennies. Not sure if any are vintage.....have not cleaned them up yet. Most of them I could read the dates and the oldest is a 1976 quarter. Also fund a 12ga shot gun shell base, 5 tent stakes, a house key, a small shovel without the handle (not pictured) and a chunk of iron or steel. Oh yeah, and I found lots of trash which I put in the trash cans. I have adopted the motto "if I dig it up, I take it out."
I have a few pennies that I can not tell the dates on. Hopefully after I clean them I will know their ages. One of them has worn real thin from the affects of the salt water and waves. Actually found that one in the water's edge.
But the chunk of iron or steel is what has me intrigued. My unit hit on it at about 6 or 7 inches in the loose sand. I can't tell what it is but it is definitely triangle shaped with at least 2 ends rounded. Any suggestions?
Lastly, even though I am new to this hobby, I was able to pass on a little information to an inquisitive passerby. He will probably look up this forum because I told him about it. He doesn't have a detector yet but I think he will have one soon.
All in all, I really enjoyed the day! It was a lot less stressful than watching my Texans loose their 10th in a row!
